Highlights from NCC's Virtual Garage - Round 2
H
ave you ever thought about how
you might design your ultimate
BMW garage? TV shows like
Jay Leno's Garage help one's
imagination run wild, but several
NCC members have made this a
reality. We began to explore this
topic last February when I pitched
NCC President, Paul Seto, on a
virtual series to feature members'
garages and share lessons learned.
Staying at home more often during
the pandemic and winter months,
many people took on home projects,
and their garage was a place auto
enthusiasts tended to focus. We had
a terrific response for our first event
and in the process learned that
several other NCC members have
incredible garages and workshops
that we wanted to showcase. This
also validated our hunch that garage
upgrades is a topic that NCC
members and the broader CCA
community are interested to hear
more about.
Back by popular demand, we
held the second NCC Virtual Garage
32
in November 2021. Following the
success of our first NCC Virtual
Garage, we started thinking about
our next Zoom event. Although inperson
events have largely resumed,
a lesson learned from the pandemic
was how virtual events can bring us
together as a community in ways
we previously hadn't fully taken
advantage of.
NCC Virtual Garage - Round 2
was held on November 15th with over
50 participants consisting of both
NCC members and BMW CCA
members from across the country.
We were fortunate to be able to feature

three additional NCC members who
volunteered to host us virtually in
their garages: John Hartge, Tom
Kapikian, and Marshall Lytle. Like
our first event, the presenters gave an
overview of their garage layout,
livestreamed a walk-around tour,
shared perspectives from lessons
learned, and showed their BMWs.
The spirit of this event is not to determine
who has the " ultimate " garage,
but to learn from other members, get
new ideas, and come together as a
community. That said, wow - John,
Tom, and Marshall have awesome
garages that certainly impressed the
audience.
Following my article in the
Nov./Dec. issue of dB, I will share a
few observations and takeaways from
Round 2.

1) Make the most of what you
have. Most of us don't have the
luxury of designing a garage from
scratch (more later for those who do),
so finding ways to make the most of
what you have is the key, of course.
