Passport BMW's Oktoberfest Shines in 2022

icture this: it's the game show Jeopardy!,
and a contestant just chose the category
" BMW Events " for $1,000. The answer
appears on the blue screen: An NCC-organized
People's Choice Car Show followed by a hearty
lunch catered with authentic German food and
drink, a live band playing old-school German
music, and hundreds of smiling enthusiasts
enjoying a beautiful Saturday. If you buzzed
in and said, " What is Passport BMW's
Oktoberfest? " you would be 100-percent
correct!

is an event open to all, but is particularly catered for our NCC BMW CCA
family. How did it all start? According to Everett Hellmuth, President of
Passport Auto Group, the idea to host an Oktoberfest at Passport BMW
dawned on him after his family had taken a trip to Munich and enjoyed the
experience of outdoor Biergartens. " So, we decided that we would bring a
little bit of fun back to the U.S., " said Hellmuth. Strong attendance and automotive-enthusiast
spirit has kept this tradition alive for a decade. Hellmuth
reflected, " My favorite thing is to see all of the enthusiasts bring out their
cars to the event. Whether they're 2002s or all the way up to a brand-new
10
chilly morning soon became a
picture-perfect afternoon. NCC's
dedicated volunteers showed up
hours in advance of the People's
Choice Car Show to prepare for the
arrival of our members. Longtime
NCC President Paul Seto led the
charge of volunteers ensuring the car show ran like clockwork. Billy Dixon,
Felix Neito, Mike Saul, and Brian Schwab directed participants to dedicated
parking spaces while John McWilliams and Gordon Kimpel distributed
dash placards and ballots. Steve Pera handled check-in under NCC's event
tent, which had been transported to Passport, along with signage and other
event gear, by James Laws in NCC's long-roof E39 club car. Steve Tenney,
Fabian Manan, and I roamed freely on photography duty.
NCC's People's Choice Car Show began two hours before the
Oktoberfest luncheon, or three for those who arrived early to guarantee a
