A " Celebration of M " Weekend

ctober is a great time to be in the
Greenville, South Carolina area.
I travel there several times a year for the
M Club Day events that I coordinate at the
Performance Center East. It's a great drive
or a quick flight from the DC area.
Occasionally, there is something very special
happening in the area that makes the trip
extra special. That was the case on the third
weekend of October 2022 as we continued
our celebration of the 50 years of M in
Greenville.
My weekend began on Thursday the
13th of October with a nice drive in my
M2 CS through Virginia, Tennessee, North
Carolina, and finally into South Carolina.
With the fall leaves turning it was a beautiful
drive. I was joined that evening in Greenville
by Steve Tenney, who had caravanned down
with NCC President Paul Seto and chapter
volunteers Alaina Mohanco and Anne and
Mike Saul.
So, why come into town on Thursday? Because I was taking
Friday
The day started at the Greenville Marriott,
where BMW put us up for the night and
provided complimentary dinner, lodging and
breakfast as part of the delivery process.
Arriving at the Performance Center, we were
greeted by the smiling faces of longtime
instructors and great friends Clint Kimel, Jr.
and Mike Renner, and the rest of the delivery
staff. Clint and Mike were our primary instructors
for the morning. Clint provided about 30
minutes of information and instruction on the
upcoming days activities and reminded us of
the key safety and driving features of all
BMWs. They say that Disney World is the happiest
place on earth, but I believe the
Performance Center beats Disney hands down.
Eight cars are delivered each day. While

My guest, Steve Tenney, and I were there to enjoy the unique delivery experience
of picking up a new car at the BMW Performance Center East, right
across the street from the largest BMW assembly plant in the world.

four deliveries were taking place, the remaining
group went to the Performance Center track.
We had afternoon delivery, so our group went
to the track first. Driving similar cars to that
which we were picking up, we spent some time on the autocross course and
experienced the anti-lock braking capabilities of our cars on the " braking-andentering "
exercise. Next, we took 340is onto the skid pad, where we drove
around the wet surface and slammed on the brakes to demonstrate the BMW
anti-lock system capabilities in the rain.
