To paraphrase one of my favorite bands, Goodbye, Hello, Goodbye, Hello.
Der Bayerischeand I bid farewell to our eminent Co-editor, Anna Maripuu,
with the January-February 2020 issue. Anna had served as Co-editor for 5 ½
years, 33 issues, mostly with Walter Jones as dB's other Co-editor. In addition
to serving in that capacity, Anna wrote many articles for der Bayerische over the
years, including " Oktoberfest: Beaver Creek or Bust! " and " Drifting with Johan "
in the September-October 2014 issue, her very first as Co-editor. Those were
followed by numerous others, including " Right Coast Bimmerfest " , " Racing in
the Rain: Soggy Sahlen's Six Hours " , and a profile of club member Tommy Ivic
of Tier Car Care. She saw the metamorphosis of dB from a print magazine to
primarily online, a painful but financially necessary transition. Anna was
consistently passionate about dB and upbeat and enthusiastic in general.
When Anna departed, it was time to say hello to der Bayerische's new
Co-editor, Mike Bevels. Mike joined dB in that capacity starting with the
May-June 2020 issue and brought many firsts to the effort. Mike was the social
media whiz who began marketing dB in Facebook and Instagram. He piloted
the bi-monthly email blasts specifically promoting dB. Mike also contributed
numerous articles to dB, including " DIY at Bimmerwerks " and " NCC Sponsor
Spotlight: Matt Curry's Craftsman Auto Care " in his inaugural issue, later
followed by one of my favorites, " The 2022 Cherry Blossom Run. " Mike is an
exceptional photographer, and his work shined through in numerous NCC
Sponsor Spotlight and NCC Volunteer Spotlight articles. Mike spearheaded our
interviews with local collector Lothar Schuettler, culminating in an article in
Roundel: " From Z to Shining Z. " Mike's accomplishments caught the eyes of
the folks at BimmerLife magazine, who asked him to become their new online
editor. Unfortunately, there's only so much one person can do, and with
commitments to BimmerLife, work, and a young family, it is time for dB to bid
au revoir to Mike. After 17 issues and almost three years, this will be Mike's
last issue serving as Co-editor of der Bayerische.
Mike's pending departure necessitated finding a replacement, so Mike
reached out to none other than Anna Maripuu, who graciously accepted the
invitation to return to dB. Hello and welcome back, Anna.
