It's such a better picture I think. "
Joshua's photography has really taken off in the last few years. He recollected,
" I was taking pictures when I was a teenager in the late 80s and early 90s,
but it wasn't until the last four years that I really started taking more photos.
That's when I heard about Katie's C&C. I was taking pictures with my phone
initially. I saw people with actual cameras, so I decided to buy a cheap Nikon
D3100 that I found on eBay. It kind of snowballed from there. After a year, I started
taking pictures for Sunset Auto Club. It became more serious at that point. "
Katie's C&C is Joshua's favorite event, as that's what got him into automotive
photography. The combination of classics and new cars really drew him in.
Joshua says that practice, looking at other people's photos to see what you like,
and YouTube channels on photography are great ways to improve your
photography skills. They can help with things like composition and lens choice.
Joshua recommends picking up a circular polarizing filter. He says " it's the first
thing I buy when I get a new lens. Without it, there can be too much shine off
the cars. "
Rolling shots, or " rollers " , are Joshua's favorite photos to take. He said,
" When you're sitting down to look at them and find that nice shot, perfectly in
focus - that's a lot of fun. " Joshua currently shoots with a Nikon Z6 with a 50mm
f/1.8 because " it has been really versatile and [he] loves the look of it. " Joshua

So there you have it, straight from the photographers' mouths. I would like
to note that there are plenty of other great C&C events in the area that weren't
mentioned, such as NCC C&C, Hunt Valley Horsepower, Potomac C&C, Vienna
C&C, Leesburg C&C, and many more. I wouldn't want to rank them because
each event has its own uniqueness making it special and different from
the others. A quick internet search will reveal what events are in your area.
I highly suggest sampling all of them!
On the occasions I'm able to entice my kids, Avery and Carter, to come with
me (donuts and chocolate milk are big motivators), they bring their cameras as
well. It's truly an enjoyable trifecta of activities; family, photography, and cars.
And it's always a joy to see what they capture as they have completely different
perspectives than any of the adults in attendance.
If you haven't already noticed, there's a common theme here that isn't the
cars, coffee, or cameras. It's the welcoming, friendly people! Just like our NCC
BMW CCA events, the people are what make C&C events special. So whether
you are looking to talk shop about camera bodies or body work, shooting in
manual mode or manual transmissions, shutter speed or top speed - these
events are a great place to chat with both enthusiasts and professionals to help
springboard your skills to the next level.
