and operate in an intuitive fashion.
The E21 BMW 3 Series set the standard
for the driver to " wear " a vehicle,
not sit in it. The G20 3 Series is the
latest evolution of that benchmark
standard.
The hybrid powertrain (B48
two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder
engine mated to an electric motor)
works in perfect harmony to produce
288 horsepower and, more importantly,
310-foot-pounds of torque.
Even with a curb weight of 4,110
pounds, the 330e is quick and naturally
cruises at autobahn speeds.
While we quickly became accustomed
to the 330e's quick pace, to the
point that it went unnoticed by us,
others on the Northern California
freeways and back roads noticed.
More than a few times people driving
performance cars challenged us -
just to be disappointed by our mature
response.
Something that puzzles us is
the buff books insistence that today's
BMW steering feel is not on par
with past designs. Considering the
average age of these reviewers, they
likely grew up driving minivans and
â–  Opposite ends of the 3 Series spectrum.
CamCords, with their personal
vehicles most likely being some
Asian import or crossover SUV.
To be polite, we shall respectfully
agree to disagree.
The 2022 BMW 3 Series
fits Like a Luxury Glove. Luxury
means that one wants to be noticed.
Becoming " the " vehicle of the
American yuppie (for those of you
who are 40 and under, that means
young, upwardly mobile professionâ–

perception of being a " poor man's
Mercedes " , Bob Lutz led the charge
to transform BMW into the " Ultimate
Driving Machine. " But when the
1980's era American social influencers
adopted the E21 and the E30 3
Series as their flagship car, a luxury
perception stuck.
It was the E36 3 Series that
cemented the 3 Series luxury image.
Partly in response to the new and
stunningly popular Japanese luxury
brands, the 3 Series seemed to have
been designed to meet challenging
performance luxury requirements.
Unfortunately, the E36 3 Series was
the last generation to come to the US
with the wonderful MANUALLY
ADJUSTABLE drivers and front passenger
seats. As you may recall from
our German Christmas Market article,
we were delighted when our BMW X1
rental vehicle had those seats.
The cross-breeding from the
ownership of Rolls Royce has significantly
raised BMW's luxury design
standards. The 330e's exterior has
the " right " amount of brightness,
curves, and element-integration to
