matching the injectors, installing new
hoses, hardware, gaskets etc.. Any
part not replaced on the motor was
disassembled completely, cleaned,
repainted, and rebuilt by me. It was a
serious adventure learning about
every component.
The exterior enjoyed a full
facelift: I sold the old diving board
bumpers and cow catcher to a fellow
CCA member and replaced them with
a new Euro bumper conversion, new
valance, and a full Mtech 1 kit that I
bought from Euro Classics. As for
any old plastic and chrome components,
these I stripped, sanded, and
repainted. All exterior gaskets and
seals were replaced with new, OE
in black.
The suspension is all new with
Bilstein B8 shocks, H&R Super Sport
springs, poly 95a bushings all
around, Suspension Technique front
and rear sway bars, a reinforced strut
tower braces and new top hats, new
FEBI front control arms and tie rods.
A ZHP steering rack from an E46 M3
was fitted for quicker steering.
I deleted the old ABS system and
replaced all the brake lines with new
Chase Bay brakes, including a hard
line delete and ABS delete. The
transmission received a new Sachs
clutch, lightweight flywheel, new
clutch hoses and lines, and a UUC
short shift kit with DSSR and poly 95a
transmission mounts.
The car will be sitting on new
APEX Arc-8 17x8 wheels wrapped in
215/40/17 Falken RT615+ tires and
a black wheel-stud conversion. The
interior is getting a minor upgrade.
The seats and steering wheel are
original Mtech and have been
repaired and dyed to eliminate the
small stress cracks. I added a Mtech
shift boot and Delrin shift knob. The
dash was cracked, so I replaced it
with a crack-free dash that I found out
of a 1991 325 from a fellow BMA E30
enthusiast. The headliner is a custom
black piece from CATuned. I pulled
the gauge cluster apart to replace all
the lights and gears, and it is now
fully functional. The wire harness
was removed, and every wire

this part or fix it? " Sometimes I would
replace, most of the time I would
repair and fabricate things to make
them 'like new' but also 'original to
the car'. The easiest part of the build
would be the occasions when things
come apart easily and then go back
together easily. However, nothing has
been truly difficult...yet; it just takes
time and extra beers and long
evenings. You must truly enjoy what
you're doing for the restoration
to proceed properly and come
together well.

in fresh black tape. The
HVAC and heater core were taken
apart completely, and I replaced and
fixed the cables, buttons, gaskets,
and any/all parts associated with the
operation of the heat and AC. NOICO
sound and thermal insulation is
ready to be laid down before a new
OE black carpet is installed. I am
sure I am missing something, but
you get the general scope of what has
been done to the E30. I CANNOT
WAIT UNTIL IT IS DONE! I am
shooting for a completion date of
June 2022.
dB: What are your favorite and least
favorite aspects of the restoration?
Ryan: I truly love everything. It's all
new to me, as this is my first true

restoration. The frustrating aspects
would just be the added expenses
that tally up as the project continues
and my OCD kicks in hardcore
(haha). Before installing anything,
the original hardware has been
polished like new. Very time consuming,
but that's not a bad thing.
Currently my garage is full... with
every part, new and used, ready to be
installed. It's like a giant Lego set
just waiting to be built to perfection!
dB: What were the easiest and hardest
parts of performing the restoration?
Ryan:
The hardest part of the build
would be the decision-making and
planning along the way. I would
challenge myself with " do I replace
dB: Any lessons learned that you can
share?
Ryan: Love what you do and it will not
be work. Take your time to process
what is going on and what needs to be
done, and stay true to your goals.
