Wow, the last issue of 2022; this was an incredible whirlwind of a year. Life as
an active club President and car enthusiast can be pretty hectic as your
schedule is already planned for you several months, and in some cases even
years, in advance. For both NCC and M Chapter, I either planned or was
heavily involved with a ton of events for this year's 50th Anniversary of M, and
it was an incredible experience. The passion our members have for M (and
BMW as a whole) is second to none, as each event was very special in its own
way. I'd be in favor of celebrating the 51st Anniversary of M and every year after
that, in the same fashion if I could. The partnership we have with BMW NA
really made for outstanding centerpieces to be shown all across the country and
it never gets old to see a vintage M1, CSLs, the only prototype E31 M8, or any
BMW race car with an undeniable history of winning. I can't thank BMW NA
enough for their generosity and flexibility, and most importantly, for sharing
their passion with us.
I hope to sustain that enthusiasm going forward; just because winter is
coming, doesn't mean we deviate. There's still plenty to do with BMW, M, and
cars in general. We will continue our Monthly Meetups throughout the year, so
come join us for food, drink, and car talk. We still have a few tours left, like our
famous Pie Run, so bring the family and friends out for a great day of driving,
food, and fun. At the time of writing this column, we are a little light on
December activities, but remember to always check our Calendar of Events for
the most up-to-date schedule. We plan to have several face-to-face events over
the winter months, as well as several webinars to keep members from getting
too bored during winter.
For those who like a good road trip, early November always means Hilton
Head! For this year's 20th annual Hilton Head Island Concours, the show's
organizers have created a special BMW M judged class to commemorate the
50th Anniversary of M. I had the privilege to help select this judged class and
it was really tough to choose only ten cars out of the 50 that people submitted.
This weekend also includes the German-only marque show, Legends of the
Autobahn, which will premiere the best of BMW, Audi, and Mercedes. Plenty of
BMW CCA members from across the country will participate in many of the
weekend's activities, which also include several auctions, an aviation expo, and
tons of car-related events and parties. If this all sounds sun, let me know and
we caravan down together!
Finally, I'd like to thank all of our volunteers for another year of great
events! All the time and effort that they spend so others can play is something
special; it's the caring and giving attitude that makes this group shine all year
long. This club doesn't exist without them and I can't thank them enough.
Running an all-volunteer organization is tough; there's never enough people to
do all the work that's necessary, but they make it happen. NCC sets the benchmark
and we continue to prosper, so the next time you see any of our volunteers
or leaders, thank them. It's well deserved.
Speaking of leadership, every year our club elects new officers and we
could use some new blood. All four positions, President, Vice President,
Treasurer, and Secretary, are up for grabs annually and we're looking for
energetic people to run for office. Those interested should announce their
intentions during the Nomination Period of November 1st - December 31st,
2022, by sending your self-nomination to our webmaster,
webmaster@nccbmwcca.org. This is my 11th consecutive year as NCC
President (shouldn't there be term limits?) and this is by far, the best job
anyone could ask for. It's been an incredible journey leading this club and it's
always a ton of fun, but I'd be happy to hand over the keys to someone who
wants all the fabulous perks (unlimited salary and paid time off to start!).
Our volunteers are world class and who wouldn't want to work with the best
BMW enthusiasts anywhere. It's time for you to consider running!
