won the GTD championship in 2023 and made the decision to move to GTD
Pro for 2024. Madison Snow has seen his FIA driver rating improve to
Gold, the same as his teammate Brian Sellers, meaning they would have to
move to GTD Pro to stay together. So 2024 has been a new challenge for
them. BMW had started the season making Madison Snow a factory driver
joining Robby Foley. Looking at the championship standings coming to
VIR, Paul Miller Racing was in 5th place in GTD Pro with Turner
Motorsports in 2nd in GTD.
The VP Racing Sportscar Challenge conducted two races separately on
two days. Patrick Wilmot had the best weekend of the three BMWs finishing
3rd in Race 1 and 2nd Race 2. Mark Brummond finished 2nd in Race 1.
The Michelin Pilot Challenge always provides a close race with many
cars in the mix. Unfortunately, we lost one regular BMW team (Stephen
Cameron Racing) to the new Mustang and another (Random Vandals) is
beginning to compete with an M4 GT3 in the SRO series and elected not to
participate in the event at VIR. Random Vandals may return to the series at
the next race in Indianapolis. The lower rated drivers typically qualify the
cars with the higher rated driver finishing up. The CarBahn M4 GT4
qualified the best of the BMWs in 6th with the Turner cars in 8th and 14th.
Unfortunately, the CarBahn car had a problem at the start of the race and
wouldn't run. There appeared to be a problem with the electronics.
The team solved the issue, but the car would be eight laps down.
The Turner cars performed according to plan, the starting drivers showing
good speed in the race moving towards the front from their starting
positions. After pit stops and driver changes, it became known that during
the pit stops, one of the Turner cars left a tire in the pit lane and the other
car hit it. This would mean that both cars would be penalized, just as the
two higher rated drivers had the cars in 4th & 5th. Chances for a good
finish would be gone. As it turned out, the #96 would finish in 10th and the
#95 just behind in 11th. A promising race result would get away.
For the Michelin GT Challenge there would be a different situation.
Madison Snow would lead Practice 1, but Practice 2 would be led by the
Wright Motorsports GTD Porsche just 0.009 seconds behind Snow's best
time. In qualifying, they would go faster still with Snow in the BMW on top,
