special people as they give their
blood, sweat, and tears to make sure
that members have a good time. And
that's what it's really about, having
fun; none of us would give up our
free time away from family and
friends if it wasn't fun. I know members
join for different reasons,
whether it's for the discounts, or
vehicle rebate, or their desire to drive
fast on track, but I've helped run this
club for more than 14 years and I still
have a great time enjoying the experience
of having fun with others.
dB: What changes would you like to
see in Socials or in the chapter as a
whole?
Paul: Probably that more members
would get out to our events. I would
estimate that only 10-20% of our
membership base actually attend
our events. The rest are missing a
big part of the CCA experience if
they only join for the Roundel (magazine)
or discounts. A portion of
everyone's membership dues go
towards funding local events, so
come see what you're missing! I
can guarantee that we have something
for everyone. We run 100+
event days every year, so there's
always something going on. In fact,
now that COVID restrictions are
practically eliminated, we have fit
almost a year's worth of events into
a smaller time frame. There may be
days where we have multiple events
and members will have a tough
decision to make. We know that
work, family, and life gets in the
way sometimes, so we make sure
you'll have a good time whenever
you join us.
dB: How would newcomers become
involved?
Paul: We usually have two New
Member events each year where
they can hear directly from each of
the programs and all of the events
we put on. We just had a big one at
Passport BMW in July, so hopefully
we can schedule another for the
fall. Also, our monthly socials are a
great way to get involved; all we do
is meet up with our BMWs, grab
food/drink, and talk cars or whatever.
Pretty easy, low risk stuff, right?
You'll then find what other members'
experience with the club has
been and you'll want to do more!

dB: Tell us a little about your current
(or previous) cars.
Paul: I've had some great ones in the
past, like a first gen V8 X5 SAV to haul
stuff, a Z3 M Roadster used for
autocross, and a fully modded E92
335i putting down 500+ horsepower
and torque. But currently, I only have
2 BMWs: a 2011 Mineral White/Fox
Red E92 M3 Competition and a 2017
Sakhir Orange/Silverstone F80 M3
Competition. The cool thing is that
they are total opposites: a loud,
naturally aspirated V8 vs a quiet turbo
I6, white over red vs red over white,
coupe vs sedan, DCT vs 6-speed
manual. People always ask which
one I prefer, but they both serve a purpose.
My E92 M3 is definitely my fun
car; I love the raw, high-revving
screams of the S65 engine and with
ICE cars giving way to electric

vehicles, it'll be tough to give that car
up. My F80 M3 is my daily beater; it
gets a lot better gas mileage and I
bought it primarily to commute and
get around comfortably. However, the
power and torque is pretty addicting,
so it's fun in its own way. (See the
comparison of the two cars above.)
dB: What is your favorite movie in the
car, car-chase, heist or racing-related
genre?
Paul: There are several that I love.
Rush was a great story about James
Hunt and Niki Lauda; racing back then
was extremely crazy and totally
unsafe, but it makes today's F1 look
so tame. The chase scenes in The
Italian Job, The Transporter, and even
Fast & Furious were really cool. Ford
v Ferrari will probably be my most
recent favorite.
dB: What else would you like to
convey to our readers?
Paul: I encourage everyone to get out
and become more active in the club.
NCC is the largest and most active
CCA chapter with almost 5,000 members
and 100+ event days a year.
No other chapter comes close to what
we do, which is amazing considering
that we are 100% volunteer-driven.
And speaking of volunteers, this is a
truly special group of BMW enthusiasts.
Not only are they knowledgeable
about everything BMW, but they
give their time to making this club the
best anywhere. So to all the members
