Nine Scholar-Athletes Honored
This year, nine national scholar-athletes were honored by
AHEPA. They were:
Eireni Moshos, Gainesville, Va., and Sofia Menemenlis, La
Canada, Calif., each received the John Peter Vlahos Outstanding
High School Athlete Award. Moshos, who will compete for
the University of North Carolina, is a six-time Virginia State
Champion in swimming, has qualified for the Olympic Trials
in the 200m backstroke, and is an Academic All-American.
Menemenlis, who will compete for Yale University, is a threetime Southern California Champion in gymnastics and competes at a Junior Olympic Gymnastic Level Ten. She also had
the highest GPA in her graduating class.
Jake Anthony Agnos, Haymarket, Va., received the
AHEPA Athletics Booster Club Outstanding High School
Athlete Award. Agnos was a First Team All-State Pitcher, the
Prince William County Virginia Conference 8 Player of the
Year, and the Washington Post All-Met Player of the Year. He
will pitch for East Carolina University.
Eleni Kohilakis, Ryebrook, N.Y., received the PSP Franklin
R. Manios Scholar-Athlete and Service Award. Kohilakis, who
will attend Cornell University, received a New York State
Scholar-Athlete Award for Soccer and was Team Captain of
her school's lacrosse team.
Isabel Saridakis, Ridgefield, Ohio received the PSP Louis
G. Manesiotis Scholar-Athlete Award. Saridakis was a Team
Captain for Track and Field and Diving teams. She was a
2016 Indoor Track and Field state qualifier and was a District
Finalist in High Board Diving. Saridakis will participate in
Track and Field at Emory University.
Margarete Calmar, Stonington, Conn., received the Past
Supreme Athletic Director Dr. Monthe N. Kofos Scholar-Athlete
Award. Calmar was a high school three-sport All-State athlete
in Lacrosse, Basketball, and Field Hockey. She is a member of
Duke University's nationally-ranked Women's Lacrosse team.
Leontia Kallenou of Cyprus received the Dr. Kimon
Doukas Collegiate Scholar-Athlete Award. Kallenou was a
three-time NCAA National Champion and five-time First-team
All-American in the High Jump at the University of Georgia.
She has represented Cyprus in International track and field
events since the age of 15 and represented Cyprus at the 2016
Rio Olympic Games.
John James Petrakas, Manhasset, N.Y., and Despina
Lianidis, Media, Pa., each received the Spanakos Brothers
High School Scholar-Athlete Award. Petrakas was a Bronze
