SONS OF PERICLES SUPREME PRESIDENT
NIKOLAS A. APOSTOLOU

MAIDS OF ATHENA GRAND PRESIDENT
TRIA CHARNAS

SOP Celebrates Landmark
90th Year

MOA Announces Charities

It is an honor to address the AHEPA family as Sons of Pericles
Supreme President. I congratulate Supreme President Andrew
Zachariades, Grand President Jan Spanos, Grand President Tria
Charnas, and their respective lodges, on their elections. After a
productive Supreme Convention, the SOP looks forward to ongoing collaboration between all the Orders of the AHEPA family
for continued growth and expansion.
The newly elected Supreme Lodge hails from across the
country. It consists of: Supreme Vice President Bill Poulos, Canton, Ohio; Supreme Secretary Gregory Vourloumis, Atlanta, Ga.; Supreme Treasurer Chris Tavantizis,
East Elmhurst, N.Y.; Supreme Governor Panagiotis Tsevdos, Brooklyn,
N.Y.; and Supreme Athletic Director
Paul Pavlakos, Tallahassee, Fla. We
aspire to build upon last year's success of reactivating five chapters by
exceeding this record number of reNikolas A. Apostolou
activations this year-our landmark
90th year as an organization. I am confident we will reach new
heights with an experienced group of leaders nationwide.
Additionally, the Sons of Pericles is committed to raising money for its national project, St. Jude Children's Hospital. Since St. Jude was established, the survival rate for acute
lymphoblastic leukemia (the most common type of childhood
cancer) has increased from four percent in 1962 to 94 percent
today. St. Jude has been a leader in that field and countless others. This is why the SOP is proud and excited to be supporting
St. Jude's.
Since the Supreme Convention, the Junior Order has been
very active. Two new chapters have been activated and there
are strong leads within a number of communities throughout
the country. None of this would be possible without the assistance of the AHEPA family. Therefore, I implore our members
to be as active as possible within their local AHEPA chapters.
Expansion of the Junior Orders into every district will ensure
the AHEPA family's future.
Please contact the Supreme Lodge with leads to grow our
Order. Best wishes for a successful year!

THE AHEPAN ยท Fall 2016

It is a great pleasure to write as the newest member to join the
ranks of Grand President of the Maids of Athena. I am incredibly proud to serve our Junior Order this year and to uphold
our virtues of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. With membership
numbers growing and sustaining over the past few years, it is
time to hone in on our young talent
and start building the future leaders
of the AHEPA family!
This year's theme is presence.
As such, we are asking members to
focus on presence in chapter meetings, in their local communities, at
district and national events, and in
our AHEPA family. We know we can
continue to count on your support
Tria Charnas
in our efforts this year. I am excited
to share just a few of them with you.
At the 94th Annual AHEPA Family Supreme Convention,
MOA delegates voted to support the International Rescue Committee (IRC) as the organization's national project. MOA's efforts
will focus on raising funds for the island of Lesbos as a way to
continue to help our selfless brothers and sisters in Greece who
so courageously welcomed displaced refugees.
For the President's Project, I have chosen Ronald McDonald
House-Greek Division of New York to be the beneficiary. Greek
families with children receiving treatment in the area can stay at
the house for little to no charge. They can count on it as a place
for a warm meal, shower, play space, and for it to provide many
of the luxuries of home that are difficult to find while traveling.
Our Grand Lodge officers will encourage their liaisons to
participate in our projects and additional programs to be announced at the Governors' Conference. The 2016-17 Grand
Lodge: Grand Vice President Effie Sapuridis, Montreal, Quebec;
Grand Secretary Sophia Shakolas, Los Angeles, Calif.; Grand
Treasurer Tatiana Tsaprailis, Calgary, Alberta; and Grand Governor Gabriella Papatzimas, Phoenix, Ariz.
In closing, thank you for your continued support of our
Junior Orders. Please consider helping our growth by gifting
membership through the Patrons of Athena program, advising your local chapter, or opening a chapter in your area. For
