NBA Star Antetokounmpo, Collegiate Ice Hockey Standout Receive National Honors
Milwaukee Bucks SG/SF Giannis Antetokounmpo is a repeat winner of the prestigious AHEPA Harry Agganis Hellenic Athlete
Award. Giannis, the NBA's 2017 "Most Improved Player," is also a key member of the Greek National Team. He first won the
AHEPA-Harry Agganis Award in 2015.
Andi Anastos, collegiate ice hockey player, Boston College, received the AHEPA William Chirgotis Collegiate Scholar-Athlete
Award. As captain, she led B.C. to a Frozen Four appearance, its fourth straight Hockey East regular season title, and a final national
ranking of third.

Daughters of Penelope Athletic Awards
The Daughters of Penelope presented Theofani Karras, a high school basketball
and academic standout from Dayton, Ohio, with the Zoe Cavalaris Award. In
addition, Elena Koumbias, Webster, Texas, received induction into the Daughters
of Penelope Athletic Hall of Fame for her success in Soccer.

Special Recognitions
AHEPA presented two "Tharseo" Recognition Awards: Emmanuel James Pappas,
Webster, Mass., who at 93, still plays competitive tennis and is ranked 10th nationally by the U.S. Tennis Association for singles in the 90 and over division; and Jacki
Gemelos, Stockton, Calif., who has personified persistence and courage, overcoming five knee surgeries to play college and professional women's basketball for the
University of Southern California and the Chicago Sky, respectively.

District 13 Honors 94 Student-Athletes Placement
AHEPA District 13 honored 94 student-athletes representing 22 different sports from Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana. In addition
to honoring all 94 athletes, there were four $1,000 scholarships and eight $500 scholarships awarded to high school seniors who
excelled in athletics and maintained a minimum "B" average academically.
Approximately 250 persons attended the banquet, which was held for the 50th consecutive year. The two guest speakers were:
Dave Eanet, who is the play-by-play voice of Northwestern University Football and Basketball, and Lou Canellis, who is the TV host
for five of the shows the Chicago Bears own and produce. Lou also hosts the ABC program, "190 North," where he has won three
Emmy Awards. Dave is also a sports anchor on WGN-TV.
The balance of the program included welcome remarks from
District 13 Athletic Director Chris Atsaves, who chaired the banquet,
and closing remarks from District 13 Governor Peter Lekas, who
wished the athletes continued success and encouraged them to be
involved in the community. Each student-athlete's short bio of their
accomplishments was presented.
District 13 commends the Sports Award Committee of Chairman
Chris Atsaves, PDG Frank Korbos, PDG Nick Lamnatos, and Larry
Poullman for their hard work and dedication and thanks the sponsors
and donors.
