AHEPA FAMILY CHAPTER NEWS
District 12
Hoosier District 12, Indiana
The district announced the following donations: $3,000 for St. Nicholas National Shrine, which was presented at the 95th Grand
Banquet; $1,500 to AHEPA-DOP District 12 Foundation for scholarships; $500 for AHEPA Veteran Service Dogs project, which was
presented at the 2017 Supreme Convention; and $500 for Veteran Honor Flight Chicago.
District 20
AHEPA Chapter 219, Phoenix, Ariz.
Retired U.S. Air Force Major Peter Vergados and retired U.S. Air Force
Lieutenant Colonel Costa Tzavaras recently fulfilled a lifelong dream by receiving their Commercial Seaplane Pilot Ratings. They met for a week of fun on
Lake Washington near Seattle where they completed the program. Highly decorated combat fighter pilots from different eras, they boast a combined flying
hour total of more than 18,000-plus hours in various high performance aircraft
and fighters. Separately, Brother Tom Martinez, received the AHEPA Medal for
Military Service from then-Supreme Secretary and Veteran, Carl Hollister at the
District 20 convention. Congratulations, Brothers!
Tri-City Chapter 454, Chandler, Ariz.
The chapter is proud to share its outreach efforts in the Chandler community, which included securing a Greek Independence proclamation from the mayor of Chandler, Jay Tibshraeny. Brothers Telis
Evridou and James Dedakis met with the mayor's office to secure it. Also, the chapter donated $2,700
to Project Mexico/St. Innocence Orphanage; $200 of which Chapter 275, Tucson, generously donated.
Annually, the chapter awards a $1,000 scholarship as well. Finally, during the past two years, the
chapter has donated $2,500 to help rebuild St. Nicholas National Shrine.
George Polos Chapter 505, San Diego, Calif.
The chapter presented three, $2,000 scholarships to high school
seniors: Mary Kathryn Fellios, Michael George Gadinis, and Christopher
Efstathios Krantz, at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox
Church, Cardiff, Calif. The chapter is proud the recipients are wellrounded individuals. Pictured are: Father Michael Sitaras, Scholarship
