AHEPA FAMILY CHAPTER NEWS

AHEPA Chapter 346,

Spartans 268, Spartanburg, S.C.
The chapter recognized seven students from the community with scholarship awards totaling $3,500, June 2,
2019 at St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The chapter announced the new scholarship program in October
2018 during a luncheon provided to the community by
the chapter. The chapter thanks those who supported a
raffle and community luncheon, which in turn, provided
the proceeds for the scholarship awards.
Chapter President Judge Tom Varlan,
visited Sydney, Australia on a return
trip from a judicial conference in
Dili, Timor-Leste. While in Sydney,
Brothers and Sisters of AHEPA
Australasia hosted Brother Varlan
for a visit to "Discobulos," a site
commemorating the Sydney 2000
Olympic and Paralympic Games
established by the Australian Greek
community. The Discobulos tribute
is one of three tributes commissioned
to commemorate Hellenism and the
Games, the others being "Tribute" in
Atlanta (1996) and "Kyklos" in Athens (2004). Pictured with Brother Varlan
is Brother Tasha Vanos, chair of the Discobulos Tribute Committee. Sister
Christine Lynch, assistant secretary of the committee, took the photo.

The AHEPA Family of
Clearwater held its annual
Scholarship & Chapter Awards
banquet at Island Way Grill,
Clearwater Beach, Fla., June
2, 2019. The AHEPA family
presented four scholarship
awards with each recipient
receiving $1,200. Pictured are

The chapter presented its annual scholarship
award to Julia Sullivan, who will attend the
University of North Carolina at Greensboro School
of Music. Scholarship Chairman Lou Tsipis made
the presentation to Julia in the presence of her
family and Rev. Father Stavroforos Mamaies of St.
Barbara Greek Orthodox Church. In July, chapter officers presented membership certificates
to new Brothers Chris Howell and Dr. George
Glekas during a visit by District 3 Secretary Harry
Nicholos.
