Boy Scouts Finish Beautification Project for Hoover Property

A Hoover-area Boy Scout Troop, and its troop leader,
Nick Jebeles, completed a beautification project for
AHEPA 3 Apartments, Hoover, Ala., that included the
construction of benches and flowerpots for the property's outside sitting areas. The troop finished the project
over the course of a weekend.
"They are gorgeous," said AHEPA 3 Property Manager
Allye Shinn. "The residents will enjoy the rocking chairs
and the beautiful benches. It all looks really nice as one approaches the entry."
According to Shinn, Jebeles reached out to the AHEPA 3 community to inquire what the troop could do for the residents and the
building, and because of their discussions, developed the idea of this beautification project. The residents now have a nice seating area
in the back of the building, located under a new, beautifully covered deck that the board had provided. One bench replaced older white
patio chairs in the front of the building.
In addition to this beautification project, the Boy Scouts mailed handwritten letters to each resident, reminding them that they are
not alone for there are people thinking of them during this tough time.
"The residents really loved that," Shinn said.
North Miami Residents Serenaded

Music and fun were provided to residents of AHEPA 421 Apartments, North Miami,
Fla., during a serenade day that included raffles, gifts, and dancing.
The AHEPA team created an amazing event, and thanks to the sponsorship of
Cano Health, helped to keep the residents happy, healthy, and active while meeting social distancing guidelines and wearing facemasks. The musicians also sang
"Happy Birthday" for those with recent birthdays. Two residents won a rice cooker
and an electric coffee maker. All participants received a giftbag with coffee, facemasks, and malleable hand exercise balls, and useful items.
Mobile Resident Places Third at Regional Poster Contest
Angela Glaser, Romando McCants, and Therea Merryman
Olga McGehee, resident at AHEPA VIII, Mobile, Ala., won third place in the Southeastern
Affordable Housing Management Association (SAHMA) poster contest. She received a
plaque and a monetary prize. The property manager and the property received small dollar prizes that will be used to celebrate Olga's accomplishment. Subsequently, her artwork
was entered in the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA) art/
poster contest where the artwork competed with over 200 entries. Olga's art also will be
showcased in the 2021 NAHMA calendar. Olga is inspired by her faith to create her artwork
for the contest.
