As Ahepans, We Are All Equals

As this issue of The Ahepan attests, AHEPA continues to make a difference in the community. I
commend our Brothers who take a moment to serve a meal to a homeless family during Thanksgiving, who gift a Christmas present to a child experiencing hardship, who honor and say, "Thank You,"
to a Veteran, and who work to provide shelter to our vulnerable elderly population. Unfortunately,
the need is never ending. A one-time band-aid is never a solution. We've seen this in Michigan as our
Brothers in District 10 have made repeated donations of milk to help the victims of the Flint water
crisis, most recently during Christmas time.
To make a difference, however, also takes resources. In January, AHEPA was fortunate to receive
its largest, one-time gift of a $1.25 million donation to the AHEPA Charitable Foundation from the
Estate of Nancy Horton. The gift will help AHEPA augment its long-standing and demonstrated history of aiding Greece's public health sector by making an annual donation to the AHEPA Hospital in
Thessaloniki. In addition to being an inspiration, Ms. Horton's generous gift also demonstrates how
AHEPA's charitable work and community service is appreciated and is making an impact. We look
forward to paying tribute to Ms. Horton when we visit the AHEPA Hospital in April.
On a global stage, AHEPA is a vibrant player. In a first for the Order, AHEPA held substantive
meetings with high-level European Union officials in Brussels to discuss the challenges facing Greece,
Cyprus, and Europe as whole. This is an important endeavor as AHEPA's global footprint continues
to expand. I thank Supreme Secretary Carl Hollister for joining me and convey my sincere appreciation to our Brothers in Brussels, specifically European Eagle Chapter 610, who helped to make this
landmark visit a reality. Furthermore, I am equally proud AHEPA continues its collaboration with
our colleagues in the American Jewish community, maintaining our Order's groundbreaking work
that began in October 2010. Our recent initiatives are presented as a feature article that I encourage
you to read. Looking forward, I welcome the opportunity to build on these efforts during our annual
AHEPA Family Leadership Mission in April.
The common denominator in the implementation of our good deeds is the individual Ahepan.
Whether from small or large states, Canada or Europe, and regardless of chapter size; we are all
equals, working to advance the mission of the Order. My gratitude, and the gratitude of the Supreme
Lodge, is extended to all our Brothers for their hard work and dedication throughout 2016 and
into 2017. I look forward to communicating the same appreciation during my travels and at the
2017 Supreme Convention. My hope is for all members and their families to attend because we will
celebrate our great Order's 95th anniversary on July 26. Brothers, before we know it, our Order's
landmark 100th anniversary will be upon us, and we will return to our roots in Atlanta. This momentous occasion, not too far off in the future, is one that will demonstrate an outstanding legacy
that is unmatched and unparalleled by any other organization. It will prove the Order of AHEPA as
the true leader.
