AHEPA Meets with EU Officials, Chapters in Europe
Supreme President Andrew C. Zachariades travelled to
Brussels, Belgium to meet with European Union officials and
representatives from AHEPA chapters in Europe, November
16 to 20, 2016.
He met with several officials, including: Director-General
Margaritis Schinas, chief spokesperson of the European
Commission; European Commissioner for Humanitarian
Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides, European
Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship
Dimitris Avramopoulos, Permanent Representative of Cyprus
to the European Union Ambassador Kornelios Korneliou,
and General Michail Kostarakos, chairman, European Union
Military Committee (EUMC), among others.
"Thank you to all the officials who took time to meet with
us and to discuss topics of mutual interest," Zachariades said.
"We also thank our hosts in Region 10, Europe, and specifically Chapter 610, Waterloo, Belgium."
Supreme Secretary Carl Hollister accompanied the
supreme president. They also met with AHEPA chapters from
AHEPA Region 10, which encompasses Europe, November 19.
Woman Verbally Accosted
Couple for Speaking Greek
in Market Check-out Line
In January, AHEPA commended a supermarket's manager for removing a woman who, in a bigoted and prejudiced diatribe, accosted a couple for speaking Greek
in the market's check-out line. The incident occurred in
California.
"What the couple experienced is profoundly unacceptable and will not be tolerated," Supreme President
Andrew C. Zachariades said.
