Past Supreme Secretary Dr. Torney Passes Away
AHEPA is saddened by the passing of Past Supreme Secretary Dr. Harry L. Torney, Noblesville, Ind., on Dec. 31, 2017. He was
90. In addition to serving as Supreme Secretary, Brother Torney served as president of AHEPA 232, Inc. Apartments and on the
board of the AHEPA National Housing Corporation.
"Brother Torney served AHEPA admirably and with great pride and joy," Supreme President Carl R. Hollister said. "His service
and dedication to the community will be missed. Our sympathies are with the Torney family. May his memory be eternal."
Past Supreme Governor Alex G. Katsafanas
AHEPA mourns the passing of Past Supreme Governor Alex G. Katsafanas on Feb. 8, 2018. He was 88.
In addition to serving as Supreme Governor, Brother Katsafanas served the AHEPA Cooley's Anemia
Foundation with tremendous dedication for more than two decades, including as the Foundation's
Chairman for two years. An AHEPA Life Member of 61 years, Brother Katsafanas held membership in
Aristoteles Chapter 34, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Alexander the Great Chapter 29, Houston. He also served in
the U.S. Army from 1951-1953.
"Brother Alex's devotion to the Order of AHEPA was second to none, and we are grateful for his service
to our country," Supreme President Carl R. Hollister said. "We are especially thankful for his six decades of unselfish service to the
Order, including our Cooley's Anemia Foundation. Our deepest sympathies are with his wife, Mary, and his family. Brother Alex
will be sorely missed. May his memory be eternal."
Past Supreme Governor George N. Zarafonetis
AHEPA is saddened by the passing of Past Supreme Governor George N. Zarafonetis, Dallas,
Texas, on Feb. 18, 2018. He was 97. Brother Zarafonetis was a Life Member of 80 years of
Chapter 20, Dallas.
"Brother George dedicated his life to AHEPA," Supreme President Carl R. Hollister said.
"We are deeply grateful for his unselfish service to the Order, to the Dallas community, and
to our country during World War Two as a serviceman in the United States Army Air Corps.
Our deepest condolences are with his family. May his memory be eternal."
