The day's events included a morning reception where the AHEPA family
received remarks from U.S. Reps. Gus
Bilirakis (R-FL), co-chair of the Hellenic
Caucus and Congressional Hellenic Israel
Alliance; U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney
(D-NY), co-chair of the Hellenic Caucus;
U.S. Reps. Niki Tsongas (D-MA), Dina
Titus (D-NV), and Gene Green (D-TX).
"We appreciate the strong show of
support from the champions of Greek
American issues," Kouzounis said.
"We look forward to working with
them as the Congress winds down
to achieve our goals and objectives."

AHEPA Commends Hellenic Caucus
Initiative to Restore VOA Greek
Service Funding
AHEPA commended the initiative of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic
Issues to generate congressional support to restore $400,000 in federal
funding for the Voice of America Greek Service for Fiscal Year 2015.
Twenty U.S. representatives, led by U.S. Reps. John Sarbanes (D-MD)
and Hellenic Caucus Co-Chairs Reps. Gus M. Bilirakis (R-FL) and
Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), signed a letter sent to House Appropriations
Subcommittee on Foreign Operations Chairwoman Kay Granger (R-TX)
and Ranking Member Nita Lowey (D-NY), requesting the restoration of
the program's funding. This is the most congressional support secured for
the Greek Service, which was eliminated in the FY2014 federal budget.

N.Y. Ahepans Hold Successful State Capitol Hill Day
Ahepans from New York State joined
Empire District 6 Governor Tom
Dushas to converge on Albany, the
state capital, to meet and greet the six
State Senators and Assemblypersons
of Greek descent, May 5, 2014.
"It was a joyous pilgrimage to the
state capital to congratulate the legislators for their significant contributions
in sponsoring and passing the Religious
Freedom Initiative, supporting the
religious freedom of the Ecumenical
Patriarchate," Dushas said. "We also
educated legislators about AHEPA's
Housing for the Elderly Program
through the Department of Housing
and Urban Development."
Ahepans were able to meet
with: Senator Michael Gianaris,
Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis,
Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas,
Assemblyman Frank Skatados,
Assemblyman James Skoufis, and
Senator Dean Skelos. District Governor

District 6 Ahepans enjoyed a successful State Capitol Hill Day in Albany, N.Y.

Dushas presented a congratulatory
plaque to State Senator Skelos in the
Senate Executive Conference Room.
In discussing affordable senior
housing issues, the AHEPA delegation, which included Brother Dennis
Kiriazides, AHEPA National Housing
Corporation; focused on AHEPA
Housing's three properties in New York

State located in Syracuse, Webster, and
Cheektowaga. The delegation met with
the Executive Director of the Chairman of
Housing, Construction, and Community
Development, as well as with Dan Buyer,
the Assistant Commissioner of Housing
and Community Renewal and his staff.
District Secretary Stafan Kalagridis
helped to plan the day.
