Chapters Win at
National Bowling
Tourney
Woodlawn Chapter 94 hosted the
54th annual AHEPA National Bowling
Tournament, April 26-27, 2014. Fiftyfour Ahepans and Sons of Pericles from
fourteen chapters gathered on Saturday
at the Town & Country Lanes in Joliet,
Ill., to compete in the Doubles and
Singles events.
Dennis Giannopoulos and Teki
Dilaveri from Milwaukee Chapter 43
captured first place with a total pin-fall
of 1,432. Cosmos and Phil C. Karides
(Ypsilanti Sons and AHEPA Woodlawn
Chapter 94) took second with 1,381 and
Bobby Zaharis and Louie Giannopoulos,
Milwaukee Chapter 43, finished third
with 1,375. First place in Singles went
to Jeremy Wicklund, Garfield Chapter
203, with a total pin-fall of 816. Chris
Regas, Joliet, took second place with
741 and Peter Tsangarakis, Chapter
145, Denver, finished third at 723.
On Sunday, the Team Event found
fourteen teams competing in a tough
environment. Joliet Chapter 141
entered two teams and they finished
first and second respectively. Joliet
Team 1 shot 3,383 and consisted of
team members Chris Regas, 692; Bill
Rousenelos, 731; R.D. Sulzberger, 622;
Jay Juricich, 746; and Harry Banks,
592. Joliet Team 2 finished just nine
pins short of first place with 3,374.
Team members were: Jim Xidakis
with a 665, Nick Polykandriotes,
684; Tony Christos, 655; John Hock,
655; and George Kontos, 715. Third
place went to Dupage Chapter 423
with 3,373, just one pin out of second
place and 10 pins out of first place.

Team members were: Gus Savvas with
597, Pete Antonopoulos, 706; Jeremy
Wicklund, 703; George Mavreas, 676;
and Peter Barkoulies, 691.
Special recognition goes to Chris
Regas from Joilet Chapter who was the
overall winner in the All Events "Scratch"
competition. He had actual scores of 654
in Doubles, 729 in Singles and 680 in
the Team Event, giving him a nine-game
tournament average of 229.

Following the Team Event on
Sunday, all participants and their
guests were treated to superb 'get-away'
buffet compliments of the Woodlawn
Chapter and hosted by Tony Christos
and George Kontos. Sincere thanks to
Tournament Chairman Frank Korbos
and his committee for a job well done.
Next year's event will be in
Milwaukee, Wisc., co-chaired by Bobby
Zaharis and Louis Giannopoulos.

District 12-sponsored Grade School
Team Nearly Captures Championship
AHEPA District 12 entered and sponsored a grade school team from Indiana in
the AHEPA Bone Marrow Basketball tournament held in Chicago, March 7-9,
2014 and came away just shy of a championship.
The team, "Indiana Elite," fell in the championship game of the Boys Grade
School Division, 61-48, after winning two games to get there. The team has
a bright future as two of its players were named tournament All-stars, Yianni
Kostouros and Christopher Mantis.
Brothers Nikolaos Pantazis, Merrillville Chapter 78, and Niko Panousis,
Calumet/East Chicago Chapter 157, coached the team.
