Trenton Ahepans Sponsor First Service Dog
AHEPA Chapter 72, Trenton, N.J., successfully raised $18,000 to sponsor its first AHEPA Service Dog. The fundraising event,
"AHEPA 72 Spring Sprint" held April 21, 2018 at Hamilton Veterans Park, Hamilton, N.J., featured a 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/
Walk.
Additionally, Veteran Michael Rodriguez, who was present with his service dog, Trooper, and his family, provided inspirational
remarks to the audience before the "Spring Sprint" started.
More than 150 registrants from the St. George Community, the Trenton AHEPA family, and friends from Hamilton and the surrounding communities, participated.
The chapter deeply appreciates its generous sponsors: Sigma Pharm, Enterra Solutions, The Merion, Central Lending,
Rochonchou Wealth Management, Jimmy's Firestone American Grill, TMP
Mechanical Systems, Inc., Peter E. Zimnes, Attorney at Law, the Fanikos family,
St. George Greek Orthodox Church, and Innovative Awards, Inc. The cumulative amount collected from the sponsors exceeded $8,000.
The chapter specially recognizes and commends Brother Michael
Rochonchou, who raised more than $4,000 individually under his fundraising
team on the web site.
The brothers were proud and pleasantly surprised to raise the funds in four
months.
Fighting PTSD: After tragic deaths of Marine sons, two
Monmouth County moms find a mission
Their sons died of PTSD after serving in the Iraq War. Patricia Malloy and Debby Dailey are
driven to help others avoid that fate.
At a Feb. 25 fundraiser in Hazlet, N.J., supported by AHEPA Garden State Chapter 517,
Holmdel, N.J., Malloy and Dailey raised $26,000 to purchase two service dogs after learning
about the AHEPA Service Dogs for Warriors Program. With $30,000 needed to sponsor the purchase of two service dogs, Past Supreme Governor Christopher Diamantoukos stepped-up and
donated the remaining $4,000.
Massachusetts Brothers Serve
as Honorary Crewmembers
on USS Constitution
The USS Constitution hosted Vietnam Veterans as Honorary Crewmembers on
a four-hour turnaround cruise, May 18, 2018. On board were Brother Charlie
Kalivas, Harris J. Booras Chapter 406, Watertown, Mass., and District 8 Secretary
Peter J. Vergados, Chapter 24, Boston. The brothers shared a moment with
Commander Nathaniel R. Schick and Francesco Urena, Massachusetts Secretary
of Veterans Services. In the background, the ship's Battle Flag waves in the
breeze.
