The AHEPAN Summer 2018 - 25
By Sons of Pericles Supreme President Bill Poulos III
It has been a most eventful and memorable year as Supreme President of the Sons of
Pericles. This year has blessed me with many fond memories that I will take with me forever. I can easily say I am proud of the year we have had. Our Supreme Lodge officers have
worked hard to bring the Sons of Pericles to the forefront of the Greek American community.
Together, we can see success and promising trends of growth and expansion. Furthermore,
through our four annual weekend events this year, Greeks in Chicago, Greeks in LA, Greeks
in ATL and Greeks in NYC, we have been able to fortify our foothold in each of these cities
due to increased participation.
In addition, we have been fortunate to be a priority of the AHEPA family. We appreciate Supreme President Carl Hollister and Daughters of Penelope Grand President Eva Jean
Fomalont, with whose support the Sons of Pericles has started 13 chapters as a direct result
of being the National Project of AHEPA and DOP. The Maids of Athena also has had an exceptional year of growth and expansion.
We want to thank everyone for their continued support of the Junior Orders.
With the Supreme Convention upon us, I am reminded of how important and influential the AHEPA family has been in my
life. I have been blessed to meet amazing individuals, and I look forward to continuing those relationships. AHEPA has taught me
a lot. It has opened several doors and made a significant impact on my life. I am excited to see what the future holds for the Sons
of Pericles. My expectation is for our growth and exposure to continue. I am confident our upcoming Supreme Lodge officers will
continue to lead the Junior Order to greater heights.
While I am unsure of where my path may take me, I know the relationships forged via the AHEPA family will always be
available to me. For that, I will be eternally grateful. One of the first words of advice I received as William McKinley Chapter 38
President, Canton, Ohio, was that I should strive to leave the Order in a better place than how I found it. At the time, this advice
applied at the chapter level. However, more importantly, it applies at the national level too. I believe I have been able to leave my
mark on this great organization in every positive way I know how. Although this is my last year as a Son, I will always remain, first
and foremost, a Son. Proud to be a Son-always and forever!
Albany SOP, MOA Celebrate 40th Annual Valentine's Dance
Sons of Pericles Phocion Chapter 44 and Maids of Athena Sophia Chapter Sophia 48, Albany, N.Y. celebrated their 40th Annual
Valentine's Day Dance, Feb. 10, 2018. The two chapters are the longest-standing, active chapters in the AHEPA's junior auxiliaries.
Phocion Chapter 44 was founded March 23, 1930 and Sophia Chapter was founded Dec. 9, 1939.
Moreover, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of their
Valentine's Dance, the chapters honored 40 past chapter
presidents, beginning from 1954 to the present, in addition to members who have served on District and National
Lodges. The Albany chapters have had more than 75 members serve on these boards and ten men and women who
have served as Supreme and Grand Lodge Presidents.
Supreme President Carl R. Hollister, DOP Grand President
Eva Jean Fomalont, SOP Supreme President Bill Poulos III,
and MOA Grand President Sophia Shakolas, were in attendance to celebrate the anniversary.
