AHEPA FAMILY CHAPTER NEWS
District 3
Marathon Chapter 2, Charlotte, N.C.
The chapter initiated six men into the Order on April 17, 2018.

AHEPA Chapter 277, Durham, N.C.
The chapter received District 3 Governor Bill Bond for a visitation to
the area and hosted him for dinner at Durham's renown Bleu Olive
Bistro.
AHEPA Chapter 383, Silver Spring, Md.
The chapter organized a bus-load of members from the community who participated at the "Macedonia is Greek" rally at the UN
Headquarters in New York City, March 18, 2018. The chapter worked in cooperation with the Laconian Society of Washington,
D.C. and the Hellenic Center of Bethesda, Md., to organize the bus trip.
District 4 and 5
Brother Gust C. Kraras Mourned
Past District 5 Governor Gust C. Kraras passed away on May 5, 2018, at age 97, at his Wyomissing, Pa., residence.
Brother Gust was a life member of the Order of AHEPA. He served as District Governor in the Fifth District
in New Jersey and Delaware. In 2010, he was an instrumental force in re-organizing the Berks County AHEPA
Chapter. On June 1, 2015, Gust was surprised at the 90th Anniversary Celebration of the local AHEPA Chapter when the chapter
was renamed Gust C. Kraras Chapter No. 61 in his honor.
Gust proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the OSS, a precursor to the CIA.
A self-educated businessman, Gust was the patriarch of the Kraras family businesses. He was the owner of the former College
Inn in Reading, Pa. He went on to own The Lorraine Hotel and Restaurant, White Star Motel and other motels and restaurants in
Wildwood, N.J. He went on to become the president and owner of White Star Tours, the family travel company based in Reading,
Pa.
Gust was a long-time and dedicated member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading, where he
served on the Parish Council for over 50 years. In 1990, Gust was vested with the title of the Archon Deputatos of the Ecumenical
Patriarchate by Archbishop Iakovos, He was also a fulfilled member of the Leadership 100. In 1993, he was awarded the Medal of
St. Paul by the Archdiocese, and the Archdiocese Laity Award. On May 11, 2002, he was given the distinction of being awarded
the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
