AHEPA FAMILY CHAPTER NEWS
AHEPA Chapter 319, Port Jefferson, N.Y.
The Empire District 6 Lodge reactivated the chapter with the initiation of 28 men,
September 17, 2017. The chapter officers are: President Nicholas D. Calogredes,
Vice President Haralabos Gemelas, Secretary Alexandros Vogiatzis, and Treasurer
Georgios Botonakis. The chapter appreciates the support of the District 6 Lodge
and several past district governors who helped make the reactivation possible.
Gus Cherevas Estia-Pindus Chapter 326, Flushing, N.Y.
The chapter held a Cigar Night, May 18, 2017, to raise the funds needed to
donate two service dogs for veterans who suffer from PTSD. The chapter
prides itself on a great mix of members that consists of committed seniors,
past district officers, two past Supreme Presidents, and new passionate
members; all of who are dedicated to the mission of the Order.
AHEPA Chapter 90, Danbury, Conn.
The chapter established the "Nicholas Metaxas Lifetime Achievement Award" and presented
it to Brother Nicholas Metaxas, age 90, May 7, 2017. The award will be presented annually to
a person who has made a substantial contribution to Hellenism and the community. Brother
Metaxas joined AHEPA 43 years ago. He served as chapter treasurer for 22 years and as chapter
president for two terms, 1980 and 1981. Brother Metaxas has embodied AHEPA's mission. For 15
years, Brother Metaxas participated in the City of Danbury's Ethnic Festival where he promoted
Hellenism and the Greek culture. Chapter 90 President George Stratigakis presented the award
before an audience that included Brother Metaxas's family and Father Peter Karloutsos and Father
Nikolas Karloutsos of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
AHEPA Chapter 98, New Haven, Conn.
The chapter hosted the District 7 Fall Conference/Workshop, Oct. 14, 2017. Twenty-five Ahepans and 22 Daughters members attended.
A joint session included: DOP Grand Vice President Demi Thomas,
Supreme Governor Region 4 Jack Isaac, DOP Grand Governor Zone I
Georgette Boulegeris, and AHEPA National Board of Trustees Member
Cos Marandos. Twelve of 15 District 7 AHEPA chapters were represented.
District 7 Governor Greg Simones conducted a workshop on the online
membership program, officer responsibilities, and Brother Marandos
discussed the Order's finances. This revival of the historic Fall Conference
format was successful and well-received.
