AHEPA Chapter 195, Ann Arbor, Mich.

Des Moines, Iowa

The chapter held its 24th Annual Golf Outing at Stonebridge Golf
Course, Ann Arbor, Sept. 11, 2020. All proceeds from the event benefit high school graduates. Since its inception, more than $100,000
has been raised. The chapter also held its first-ever drive-by chicken
broil, Sept. 26, 2020, the proceeds of which were split between the
chapter and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

The brothers mourn the passing of Dr. Alexander
Matthews, who died April 10, 2020. He proudly served on
the AHEPA 192, Inc. Board,
overseeing three AHEPA
senior housing communities, totaling 146 units, in
the Des Moines metro area
as well as serving as chapter
secretary for many years.
During WWII, he joined the
Resistance against the Nazis.
Working as a multi-lingual
translator, he was later
recruited by a covert British
Special Forces unit in Northern Greece, known as IS-9,
during the Greek Civil War. Brother Matthews served in
the U.S. Public Health Service from 1952 to 1959 and
earned the rank of Commander. Having earned a reputation as a stellar and innovative surgeon, he was elected as
Chief of Surgery, Chief of Staff and member of the Board
of Directors for Iowa Lutheran Hospital.
Separately, the chapter donated $500 to agencies
coordinating the disaster relief to Marshalltown and
Cedar Rapids, two Iowa cities devastated by a Derecho
in August.

District 17
Cowboy Chapter 211, Cheyenne, Wyo.
The chapter's inaugural Antique Car Show yielded
$39,000 that the brothers donated evenly to three local
charities: Safehouse, Habitat for Humanity, and Family
Promise. Past Supreme Governor Tim Joannides made
the presentations on Oct. 15, 2020. Separately, Supreme
Governor Chris Kaitson, Past Supreme Governor Tim
Joannides, and District 17 Governor Marshall Monsell
participated at the chapter's Cars, Cigars & Guitars fundraiser held at The Greek Ponderosa.
