Koutouvides
Presented with
2013 Agannis
Award
When it was announced that
Professional Football Player Niko
Koutouvides, Plainville, Conn., was
the recipient of the 2013 Harry
Agannis award, the 10-year pro made
it clear to the AHEPA Hall of Fame
Selection Committee Chairman,
Gregory J. Stamos, that he desired
a personal opportunity to thank the
AHEPA family for the recognition.
Koutouvides' mandatory participation at New England Patriots' training
camp made it impossible for him to
accept the award at the 2013 Supreme
Convention in Orlando, Fla.
A few months later, the opportunity presented itself. Niko, accompanied by his wife and parents, accepted

and Committee Chair Stamos presented
Koutouvides with a plaque and medal
representing the Harry Agganis Award.
Koutouvides expressed gratitude to
AHEPA for the great honor. He reaffirmed his very strong Hellenic roots,
and he remarked that he always
admired and looked-up to Agannis as
the premiere Greek American athlete.
The former Purdue University standout
linebacker even noted that he always
felt a certain kinship with Agannis.
Koutouvides was a multi-sport athlete
in high school before finally excelling
in football although it was not his particular favorite. He remains close to his
family and roots and was the youngest
in the family, all of which are also common traits with Agannis.
Koutouvides also played for the
Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay
Buccaneers. This followed a stellar AllBig Ten career as a linebacker with
the Purdue Boilermakers. There, he
received recognition from the Walter
Camp All-American Foundation as
its winner of the 2004 Connecticut
Collegiate Athlete of the Year Award.
The AHEPA Harry Agganis Award
is presented annually to an outstanding
Hellenic American athlete in professional or collegiate sports.
