PERICLEAN Sons Expand in NYC, Phoenix SOP Supreme President John Ververis Winter is just about over and spring is here. The Sons of Pericles is focused on getting ready for all the district and regional conventions. The Supreme Lodge is planning to send at least one representative to every convention to work with the AHEPA family to strengthen and expand the Junior Order. The Supreme Lodge has worked diligently to reach its goal of 1,000 members. However, the Sons need the help of the AHEPA family to realize this goal. We aim to initiate and reactivate as many chapters as possible before the supreme convention. Please contact your Supreme Lodge liaison if you know any geographic areas of interest. The Sons of Pericles is proud to announce new chapters recently initiated in New Rochelle and Flushing, New York and in Phoenix, Arizona. By the end of March at least one more chapter will be activated in New York and one in New Mexico. Chicago, Seattle, Connecticut, and Canada are potential areas for growth. Two successful basketball tournaments were held in Waterbury, Connecticut and Los Angeles, in November and January, respectively. It was an honor to host AHEPA Supreme President Anthony Kouzounis at the annual "Greeks in LA" West Coast Regional Basketball Tournament and at a joint meeting with the Maids of Athena Grand Lodge. The supreme president offered words of wisdom and support that were appreciated. During the second half of my tenure I plan to make as many visitations as possible. I will outreach to chapter presidents in the effort to schedule the visitations before the supreme convention. The purpose will be to strengthen our existing membership and to generate interest in the Sons of Pericles. The best is yet to come for the Sons of Pericles. Proud to be a Son! Calgary Sons, Maids Raise $1,000 for Charity Chapter CJ9 President Yiannis Kanatas SOP Marathon Chapter CJ9 and MOA Cassandra Hera Chapter 185, Calgary, Alberta, hosted their Third Annual Retro-Basketball tournament, Nov. 22, 2013. More than 20 young men were initiated in a ceremony officiated by Supreme Secretary Andreas Christou, who received assistance from Sons of Pericles National Advisor Jimmy Kokotas, AHEPA District 20 Lodge officers, AHEPA Chapter 219 President and Past District 20 Governor Peter Marudas, and Ahepans of Chapter 219. The chapter also held elections. Elected to office were: Constantine Bilitsis, president; Thomas Anastos, vice president; Nikos Koumontzis, secretary; and William "Zack" Kotsaras, treasurer. Brother Ahepan Ted Fourlis, who was instrumental in the chapter's reactivation, is the chapter advisor. Supreme Secretary Christou also hosted a workshop with the new chapter during his visitation, highlighting the functions of the chapter, responsibilities of officers, the works of the Sons of Pericles on a national level, and other topics. Chapter 283 hopes to send representatives to the West Coast Regional District Convention as well as to the Supreme Convention. Spring 2014 · THE AHEPAN | 25 http://www.ahepa.org
