District 4 AHEPA Family Supports Greek Hoops Player
District 4 Governor James Gregorakis organized a group of
AHEPA family members to attend a collegiate women's basketball game at Robert Morris University, near Pittsburgh,
to cheer on Anna Niki Stamolamprou. Anna is a resident of
Thessaloniki, starts for Robert Morris University.
The game against Bryant, a conference opponent, was
played Jan. 31, 2015. Niki scored 28 points (eight three- point
baskets and four free throws) and tallied several rebounds
and assists.
Artemis Spanou, an All-American, who plays professional
basketball in Istanbul, recruited Niki to RMU.
Maria Genitsaridi, a volleyball player at the University
of Pittsburgh, also attended the game. Maria is a resident
of Iraklio, Crete, and has played with the Greek National
Women's Volleyball team before enrolling at Pittsburgh.
RMU won the game, and afterwards, a buffet luncheon
reception was held. The group was able to meet with Niki and

Maria too. Future events are being planned to support local
Greek and Greek American athletes in the Greater Pittsburgh
area.

Catching Up with Greek American Basketball Personalities
AHEPA Athletic Hall of Fame member, Steve Lappas, former
Manhattan College, Villanova University and University of
Massachusetts head basketball coach and current TV
commentator for CBS Sports
Network shared some time
to catch up with Supreme
Counselor Greg Stamos
prior to a University of
Connecticut men's basketball game in Storrs, Conn.
Lappas was the Head Coach
of the 2008 AHEPA All-Star
Basketball team that journeyed to Greece as part
of the AHEPA Convention

and defeated the Greek
Counselor Stamos
Junior National Team at the
Olympic Stadium, where Stamos served as an assistant coach.
The Brooklyn Nets/Memphis Grizzlies game at Brooklyn,
Jan. 14, 2015 provided an opportunity for AHEPA family
members to turn out to support two Greek Americans, Kosta

Koufas, the winner of the 2014 Harry Agganis Award; and
Nick Calathes. Koufas is a 6'11" center, and Calathes is a point
guard. Both men are members of the Greek National Team.
