Tarpon Springs Hosts Super Bowl Golf Tournament
On a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the 70s,
AHEPA Chapter 16, Tarpon Springs, Fla., held its 11th Annual
Super Bowl Golf Tournament.
More than 50 AHEPA family members
and friends participated in the scramble format event. A "wild game" dinner
and awards ceremony at the Chapter 16
AHEPA Home followed the golf outing.
First place winners shot 14 under
par. They were: Nicholas Mantzanas,
Vangeli Karatzas, Pantelis Mastrovasillis
and Michael Mastrovasillis.
Second place winners shot 11 under par. They were: Tony
Saravanos, Jim Kartsonis, Chris Psetas and George Psetas.
Paul Pantel captured Longest Drive, and Chris Psetas won

two honors, Closest to the Pin and the Putting Contest.
Donna Polechronis won the Ladies Longest Drive and
Sherry Pantelides captured the Ladies Closest to the Pin.
Chapter Vice President and Chairman Michael Pantel and
Chapter President Jim Miller did an outstanding job coordinating the event and preparing a delicious meal, which included
deer venison chili.

Athletic Notes...
Zach Auguste, a 6'10" 240 lb. junior forward from Marlborough, Mass., is in his second season as a starter for Notre Dame
University, which is 21-3 and ranked 8th nationally. Zach averages 13.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game... One of the
assistant coaches at Notre Dame is Rod Balanis, in his 15th season at Notre Dame, after playing
at Georgia Tech and then professionally in Greece...Peter Dalis, who served as Athletic Director
at UCLA during a 19-year period in which that school won 39 NCAA Championships recently
passed away in his home in Los Angeles. He was 76...Jason Tsirtsis (at right), sophomore wrestler at Northwestern University, won the 2015 Big Ten wresting championship in his weight class
of 149lbs. He is ranked number 1 nationally in that weight class by Inter Mat...Athletic Hall of
Famer (Class of 1989) Nikos Spanakos was recently inducted into the Florida Boxing Hall of
Fame...Athletic Hall of Famer (Class of 2004) Jim Daopoulos, a native of Marlborough Mass.,
who was an on-field NFL official from 1989-2000 and the NFL's Supervisor of Officials from 20012012, serves as the media expert on pro-football rules and regulations...Athletic Hall of Famer (Class of 2011) Stan Spirou
is now in his 30th season as the Head Coach of men's basketball at the University of Southern New Hampshire. His career
record of 571 wins ranks him among the top ten active coaches in NCAA Division II...Esteemed Cardiologist and Surgeon,
Dr. John Elefteriades, Yale University, who AHEPA honored in 2011, recently performed cardiac surgery on NFL Referee Bill
Vinovich. The operation allowed Vinovich to return to the National Football League, culminating in
Vinovich being the lead official in the recent Super Bowl... Andrew Vailas, Bedford, N.H., 6'2', 195pound senior quarterback at the University of New Hampshire, had a standout season, completing
68 percent of his passes for 1,149 yards and ten touchdowns...Yianni Gavalas, Manhasset, N.Y.,
sophomore quarterback had a standout season for the St. Anselms (New Hampshire) football team...
Jonathan Tsipis is the head coach of the George Washington University Women's Basketball Team,
which cracked the Top 25 for the first time in seven years. Jonathan is the son of Class of 1997 Hall
of Famer Lou Tsipis, who played professional basketball in Greece...Sam Anas (at left), sophomore
forward for Quinnipiac University Men's Ice Hockey, and 2014 recipient of the William Chirgotis Outstanding College Athlete
Award, is a nominee for the 2015 Hobey Baker Award (best college men's hockey player).
