The AHEPAN - Winter 2014 - (Page 24)
HOUSING
In his remarks, Dr. Edward L. Pringle,
Regional Field Office Director of the
Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD), cited the many lessons
learned throughout his life and from his
parents. They all culminated in ways that
applied to the efforts of the local Daughters
in providing a place of comfort, security,
and care for the disadvantaged elderly.
Angelo Kostarides, president of the parAt
the official Ribbon Cutting ceremony are (l-r): J. and C. Karthan, AMC Bd.; N. Vaughn,
D54 Bd. dir.; N. Stratas, chairman; and D. Benos, dir., AMC Bd.; B. Maligas, D54 Bd. Tr.; M.
Lymberry, D54 Bd. v.p.; P. Kaldis, PSG; Dr. E. Pringle; Reg. Dir. HUD; M. Verges, PGP, pres.
D54 Bd.; Rev. D. Tagaropulos, Annunciation Cathedral; S. Papadopoulos, Sec., D54 Bd.; DOP
GP Grossomanides; T. Pearson, A29 Bd. pres., D54 dir.
member; Art Poly, president and CEO, AMC, which provides
managers, maintenance personnel and oversight of the property;
Dr. Barbara Manousso, who is experienced in elder
mediation, elder care and is involved with aging health committees
and services; Nick Stratas, chairman of the Board of
ANHC which sponsored and supports both projects; and DOP
Grand President Anna-Helene Grossomanides, all addressed
the audience.
All remarked of the excellent facility and the vital services
that will be provided for the residents yet to come. Moreover,
they extolled the leadership of President Verges and her hard
working Board members.
ent ANHC, of which President Verges is
a vital part and has admirably served to
develop two wonderful properties through
her leadership. The ANHC works with each
local owner corp. to accomplish its mission
to provide affordable senior housing.
Kostarides cited the changes occurring in
the method of providing properties now and
we are adapting to the changes. He cited the
breadth of the program we now manage.
He also acknowledged AHEPA Chapter 29's
four buildings that also added 251 units
locally.
James G. Verges then presented an appropriate vocal rendition
of the well-known Bless This House, asking for Divine
assistance for this site and its residents and staff. Many of the
attendees joined in with James.
The final event in the community room was the service
and official Blessing of the Apartments by Rev. Tagaropulos,
and incidentally assisted by ANHC Director Nick Kallan and
AMC President Poly, singing responses. The reverend, at the
end of his service, sprinkled the attendees and throughout the
building with the Holy Water created. Incredibly, as the attendees
proceeded outside to the official Ribbon Cutting ceremony
the building itself was blessed by the heavens with a very
light sprinkling. The ribbon-cutting took place
between the columns with many photos taken of
VIPs, Daughters members, the DOP 54 Housing
Board members, and the AMC Board.
The final event was the tasty reception featuring
all types of plentiful finger foods and
beverages.
Speaking at the dedication were (l-r): ANHC Chairman
Nick Stratas, who is beside PGP Mary Verges, the
emcee; ANHC Pres. Angelo Kostarides; and Dr. E. L.
Pringle, regional field office director, HUD.
