mbassadors are defined as " an accredited
diplomat sent by a country as its official representative
to a foreign country. " It is not only
an honor to be an ambassador, but it is also a
position of respect and prestige.
Washington, D.C. is a transient home to
many ambassadors to the United States for obvious reasons.
They represent their countries to the most powerful nation on
earth, a true test of their diplomatic skills and acumen. They host
events to proudly showcase their countries, and having attended
a few of these events, it is impressive to see how ambassadors
perform their duties.
AHEPA has shared excellent relationships with ambassadors,
foreign and American. Over the years, we had some excellent
representatives in Athens representing the United States. All have
assisted AHEPA over the decades, and it has been an honor to
work with them and their staffs.
However, I write this piece to bring attention to the one man
who has in the last five years done more for U.S.-Greece relations
than any other individual in recent history.
This man is U.S. Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey R. Pyatt.
Ambassador Pyatt, a 32-year career member of the Foreign
Service, class of Career Minister, was sworn in as the U.S.
Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic in September 2016. It was
my honor to attend his swearing-in ceremony.
Prior to his assignment in Athens, Ambassador Pyatt served
in the diplomatically challenging post as U.S. Ambassador to
Ukraine from 2013-2016, receiving the State Department's Robert
