DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE GRAND PRESIDENT KATHY BIZOUKAS
Working to Keep Our Light Shining Bright
It is with great pleasure and honor that I have the opportunity to address the AHEPA family as
Grand President of the Daughters of Penelope.
First and foremost, I would like to congratulate newly elected Supreme President Jimmy KokoKathy
Bizoukas
tas, MOA Grand President Maria Ana Pantelous, and SOP Supreme President Tim Noitsis, and their
respective Lodges.
Part of our mission is promoting Hellenism and it was up front and center this year with our
Greek pride displayed in Athens, Greece for the 99th Supreme Convention. To be in our homeland
where our history started was overwhelming and exciting. As they say, from Greek roots to American
dreams is an understatement. Our history is something we need to preserve for the future of
our children and grandchildren.
Daughters of Penelope members have so much knowledge and years of experience in the history
of our organization, and that is why we still exist after 91 years. I believe without our members, we
could not-and would not-exist. Thank you to Founder Alexandra Apostolides for your vision of
this wonderful sisterhood we call the Daughters of Penelope.
The theme for this term is, " Re-ignite the Daughters of Penelope and keep our light shining bright. "
The DOP has been in existence since 1929. Ninety-one years later, we are still here. What does
that say about us? It clearly shows the AHEPA family is very strong, and nothing can keep us down.
How are we going to do this? Be more inclusive. We need to continue bringing in members. We need
to communicate the organization's values, identify measurable building goals, and offer ways that
everyone can get involved and help to build our leadership.
It is not about starting over. Maybe it is about defining a new, " new, " by picking a starting point and
identifying a measurement that honors the journey thus far and noting the progress that still can be
made. It does not mean we are starting over. It means we need to keep the excitement and motivation
in our members to continue working forward.
We will continue motivating our AHEPA family membership together, as a family, reaching out,
staying in touch, but now we can do it better, " around the world " as Zoom has proved.
The Grand Lodge is excited to work together with AHEPA and the AHEPA family. Let's focus, keep
moving forward, and see where we can go.
We cannot dwell on the past. We need to look forward as we continue building for the future while
honoring the past.
To AHEPA, we congratulate the Order on its upcoming 100th Anniversary!
