Former School Superintendent Lazares Honored by County
Historical Society
The Warren County (Ohio) Historical Society
recognized Ahepan John Lazares, a former
superintendent of Kings Schools, along with
several educators, at the Society's Founder's
Day celebration with the dedication of the
Warren County Teachers' Monument, May 6,
2022.
A bell stored away for 60 years after being
stationed at Pleasant Street School was repurposed and placed
to honor educators, including teacher aides, office workers and
staff and volunteers of Warren County school systems-past,
present, and future. The bell is the only one of its kind in Warren
County.
During the celebration and dedication of the bell, an educator
from each of the county's schools was recognized and thanked
for being a prominent educator in the county over the years.
Former Kings Superintendent Lazares received recognition for
Houston AHEPA Awards
$62,000 in Scholarships
The AHEPA 29 Educational Foundation awarded 52
Houston-area students with scholarship awards totaling
$62,000 for the 2022-2023 school year, on Aug. 7,
2022. The Foundation awards academic scholarships to
students whose families are members of the Houstonarea
AHEPA organizations and Greek Orthodox communities,
including the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral and St. Basil the Great.
Brother Stadis Patniyot is the Foundation director. Since its founding in 1990, the Foundation has awarded an estimated $600,000
in scholarships.
Mother Lodge Awards $73,000
in Scholarships
The AHEPA Mother Lodge Chapter No. 1 Educational Foundation
awarded $73,000 to forty students from the greater Atlanta area. The
foundation was established in 1986 and serves the cultural and educational
programs of AHEPA Chapter 1, DOP Chapter 53 and AHEPA
Chapter 519, Marietta, Ga.
More than $1,219,800 have been awarded to 858 recipients for
scholastic achievement and financial need since 1986.

the Kings Local School District.
Lazares served as Kings Superintendent
from 1992 to 1996. In his 40 years in education,
he was an advocate for the children of
Warren County and even has a school named
in his honor, The John Lazares Alternative
School. Formerly known as the Warren
County Alternative School, it was renamed
in 2013 to honor Lazares for his vision to help at-risk students.
It was his vision to help this group of students at a time when
alternative schools were not available. The school opened in
1998.
Lazares also is a recipient of the " Heroes of Character " award
by The City of Character, Hamilton, Ohio and the Character
Council of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
He is a 51-year Life Member of Liberty Chapter 127,
Cincinnati.
