the Verizon NHL Fastest Skater event. In the 2021-22 season,
Kyrou scored 27 goals and amassed 75 points, helping to lead
the Blues on a playoff run. He scored seven goals in 12 playoff
games.
Recent recipients of the AHEPA-Harry Agganis Award
include Stefanos Tsitsipas, Cody Bellinger, Ted Karras, and
Giannis Antetokounmpo.
George Papas, Jersey City, N.J., and Erin Nicholas, Scarsdale,
N.Y., are co-recipients of the AHEPA-William Chirgotis Collegiate
Scholar-Athlete Award.
As a senior guard at Monmouth University, George was
named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC)
Second Team, finishing seventh in the conference in three-point
percentage at 39.2. He led the Hawks in three-pointers made
with 47. George's 12.4 points per contest ranked third on the
Hawks, just two points shy of second. He finished his senior
season average just under 15 points a game (14.9).
At Middlebury College, Erin was named the Division III
Honda Athlete of Year as captain of the women's field hockey
and lacrosse teams where she led each team to national championships.
She was selected as the National Field Hockey Coaches
Association (NFHCA) National Player of the Year for the third
consecutive year. She is also a three-time NFHCA Region II
Player of the Year, a three-time NFHCA First-Team All-American,
and an Academic All-American.
The Agganis Family-Galatis Most Outstanding Greek
American High School Athlete Award was presented to Elena
Soukas, a standout varsity member of the Melrose High
School Volleyball team. She was a Boston Globe Volleyball
All-Scholastic in 2020 and 2021, the Freedom Division's
Most Valuable Player, and a Middlesex League All-Star. Elena
earned team MVP honors in 2021. She attends Northeastern
University.
National Scholar-Athlete Awards
AHEPA proudly announced nine 2022 National Scholar-Athlete
Award receipients.
Devin Armstrong (soccer), Palm Harbor, Fla., is the recipient
of the Anthony Leondis Scholar-Athlete Award, presented for
superior accomplishments in athletics, academics, and community
good.
Emmanuel Barris (golf, ice hockey), Hopkinton, Mass., and
Mya Bokerman (diving), New Berlin, Wisc., are recipients of the
John Peter Vlahos Scholar-Athlete Award, presented to an outstanding
high school scholar-athlete.

Panos Burlos (football), Charlotte, N.C., is the Manchester
Greats Scholarship Award honoree for superior accomplishments
in academics and athletics.
Ioanna Copulos (volleyball), Boca Raton, Fla., is the recipient
of the Dr. Monthe Kofos Scholar-Athlete Award, presented
for outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, and
extra-curricular activities.
Carolyn Marie Hagler (diving), Grand Rapids, Mich., is the
Past Supreme President Franklin R. Manios Scholar-Athlete and
Service Award honoree, which recognizes achievements in academics,
athletics, and community service.
Andrew Spirrison (tennis), Fishers, Ind., and Zachary
Vlachos (soccer), Peabody, Mass., are recipients of the AHEPA
Athletics Booster Club Excellence in Athletics Award, presented
to an outstanding high school athlete.
Sofia Stephanopoulos (lacrosse, field hockey), Portsmouth,
R.I., is the recipient of the Past Supreme President Phillip and
Tula Frangos Scholar-Athlete Award, presented for outstanding
achievements in athletics, academics, and community service.
Moreover, the Daughters of Penelope announced Georgia
Chrysi Polydoros, Houston, as the 2022 Zoe Cavalaris
Outstanding Female Athletic Award recipient, and two-time
Team USA Paralympian Eliana Marie Mason, Beaverton, Ore.,
as the 2022 Hall of Fame Athlete. Polydoros is a standout softball
centerfielder and pitcher for Lamar High School. She will
play for Division I California Baptist University in Fall 2023.
