Residents Shine at North Miami's Health and Beauty Fair
The AHEPA North Miami community hosted a successful 2nd
annual Health and Beauty Fair. Several providers, vendors, medical
health plans, two mental health therapies, different government
programs, and home health agencies supported this
amazing event.
The residents starred in a fashion show supported by
Ageless Chic magazine. They modeled their own clothes and
were assisted by a professional photographer and a makeup
artist.
Residents also benefited from health screenings and
educational programs that focused on hearing exams, mammograms,
vision, diabetes, Covid-19, and Covid-19 vaccines with
the second booster. To top things off, the local medical center
brought in a Thai-Shi exhibition.
Phone and tablet giveaways, music, games, painting, raffles/
prizes, including a gift card donated by the local Wal Mart; and
plenty of food, were all part of the fun. Attendees enjoyed taking
funny photos at an instant photo booth.
The community thanks all the support it received from vendors
and sponsors.
Residents Learn about Elder Scams, Healthcare Fraud at
AHEPA One
AHEPA One Senior Apartments, Decatur, Ga.,
observed Elderly Abuse Awareness Day, June 15,
with a presentation on " How to Prevent Scams
as a Senior. " Residents learned about several
scams, including the " Grandparent Scam, " where
an individual calls and pretends to be a family
member that just got into a car accident and
needs money. Other scams discussed were " IRS, "
" Medicare, " and " Sweepstakes " scams. Thanks
to the presenters, who also provided translation
services for residents.
Additionally, a Senior Medicare Patrol representative
visited with AHEPA One residents
to talk about Healthcare Fraud. He went over
ways seniors can " Protect, Detect, and Report, " and provided
residents with a Senior Patrol hotline that is available with live
representatives who assist seniors if they feel suspicious about
