PERICLEAN
SOP, MOA Honor the Past with Eyes on the Future
The
Las Vegas Supreme
Convention marked the start of
what the Sons of Pericles hopes
will become an annual tradition.
The inaugural SOP & MOA
Legacy Cocktail Hour aimed
to honor Sons of Pericles Past
Supreme Presidents and Maids of
Athena Past Grand Presidents. In
addition to thanking them for their contributions to our Orders,
the leadership of the Junior Orders wanted to show current members
how strong the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood truly
are.
The brainchild of SOP Past Supreme President Ryan Marinos, the
event also served to facilitate introductions between current and past
members of both organizations. Organizers were incredibly thankful
to have several past presidents in attendance. Sons of Pericles
Past Supreme Presidents Lee J. Millas (58-59), Craig Clawson (72),
Basil Mossaidis (89-90), Gregory Vourloumis (18-19), Paul Pavlakos
(19-20), and Timothy Noitsis (20-22) attended. Additionally, Maids
of Athena Past Grand Presidents Catherine Chiros Keyser (73-74),
Barbara Stavis Wolf (76-77), Pam Stamm (78-79), Kathy Kallas
Karnezis (87-88), and Stephanie Maniatis (07-09) attended.
Immediate PGP Maria Ana Pantelous and Marinos introduced
a slideshow that documented pictures of the SOP and
MOA Lodges throughout the years that spanned back to the
founding of both Orders. The presentation included pictures
submitted by many past supreme and grand presidents who
were unable to attend but who
wanted to support it.
The event's keynote speakers
were MOA PGP Pam Stamm
and SOP PSP Lee Millas. They
spoke about their experiences as
presidents and how those experiences
have since impacted
their lives. To conclude the program,
Marinos, on behalf of the SOP Supreme Lodge, presented
Millas with the inaugural Generations Award and presented PSP
Noitsis with a Lifetime Membership Pin.
The program also included a memorial tribute by PGP Cathy
Chiros Keyser for Past Maids of Athena Grand Lodge officer Kali
Perperis, who passed away earlier that week.
The Sons had the opportunity to present Past Supreme
President Paul Pavlakos with his Past Supreme President's Pin.
Brother Paul's term ended during the height of the pandemic
and the leadership at the time was unable to present it with
the proper ceremony. Brother Paul's former Supreme Vice
President, PSP Noitsis, pinned him.
The program concluded with remarks presented by U.S.
Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis, a former member of the
Sons of Pericles. He spoke about his experience in the organization
and its impact on his life.
The Sons of Pericles aspires to host this event at future
Supreme Conventions to continue to foster the relationship
between the past and future of our Orders.
PSP Millas Honored with Inaugural " Generations Award "
The 2022-23 Sons of Pericles Supreme Lodge honored
SOP Past Supreme President Lee J. Millas with
the first ever Sons of Pericles Generations Award.
The award honors brothers whose dedication to the
Order spans generations.
After serving as SOP Supreme President, Brother
Millas continued to be an active Ahepans for sixty-six
years, serving at the chapter, district, and national
levels. In his acceptance speech, Millas cited his
experience in the Sons of Pericles as the beginning
of his journey and gave words of advice to the current
and future members of the SOP Supreme Lodge.

Millas pointed out was that he valued his time in
the Sons of Pericles so much that to this day, he continues
to wear a Sons of Pericles pin along with his
AHEPA pins. He shared anecdotes about having found
vintage SOP pins in his drawers from over fifty years
ago. He proceeded to present two of them to Past
Supreme President Marinos and Supreme President
Economakis in an unexpectedly emotional moment.
Millas is the oldest living SOP Past Supreme
President. It is an incredible honor to have been
able to thank him not just for his dedication, but his
contributions to the Order.
