The Order of AHEPA was founded in 1922 by eight visionary brothers who saw the need to
create a fraternal organization to bind our ancestors together in America. AHEPA has been
through many challenging times. AHEPA assisted people in keeping their communities running
during the depression of the 1930's. During World War II, AHEPA became an official
issuer of World War II War Bonds, selling over $300 million (that's $5 million today) worth!
In the 1950's and 60's AHEPA built hospitals and medical centers in Greece. We built statues
and dedicated buildings to our ancestors, and we expanded our chapters into every city in
America.
In 1974, AHEPA led the charge to Washington, DC to fight the injustice in Cyprus. In
the 1980's, AHEPA donated millions in support of the youth; $1 million to St. Basil's, created and
maintained the AHEPA Educational Foundation which continues to award Scholarships to
deserving scholars to this day. We also created the AHEPA Housing Corporation.
AHEPA
Housing, which currently manages 96 facilities in the United States, provides safe and affordable
homes for nearly 6,000 elderly residents. In 1986 AHEPA donated to the restoration of
Statue of Liberty, and in 1990 AHEPA donated $1 million to the restoration of Ellis Island.
In 2001, AHEPA took the lead and raised $500,000 for 9/11 relief and assistance. We have raised
nearly $1 billion since 1922 for aid to the United States and Greece. AHEPA takes the lead and
AHEPA Cares. In 2019 AHEPA donated $1 million to the restoration of the St. Nicholas Greek
Orthodox Church and Shrine at Ground Zero. AHEPA continues to combat for the rights of all
Hellenes and Defends Hellenism daily.
In 2019, when faced with a global pandemic that spread like nothing the medical community
has seen in years, the AHEPA stepped up to serve their communities on a global and local
scale. Our chapters went above and beyond, getting out in the field to feed the frontline
heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic, our doctors, nurses, firemen, and EMTs. They raised money
and donated PPE where they could, and went out of their way to make a difference.
AHEPA is celebrating our 100th Anniversary this year and has scheduled events across the
country in honor of our " Century of Service. " Our celebration will culminate this July at our
100th Annual Supreme Convention in Orlando, Florida. We invite you and your family to join
us at Walt Disney World to spend a magical week with the AHEPA family to rekindle old
friendships and forge new ones. We look to all of you to keep AHEPA alive for another 100
years!
