Des Moines Ahepans Participate in Wreaths Across America
This year, National Wreaths Across America Day fell on a very cold
and blustery December Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
A team representing the James L. Karthan AHEPA 192 Chapter
helped to honor more than 1,000 veterans at the Woodland Cemetery
in Des Moines with the laying of remembrance wreaths on the graves
of these fallen heroes. The Ahepans also performed the act of saying
aloud the name of each veteran.
The mission of National Wreaths Across America Day is to
Remember, Honor and Teach. Annually in December, the mission is
carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington
National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2,500 additional locations
in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.

New Rochelle Ahepans Provide
Food Assistance to Veterans Group
James Plevritis-Joseph C. Keane Evzone Chapter 405, New Rochelle, N.Y.,
partnered with the Ladies Philoptochos Society of Holy Trinity Church, to
present $1,000 in Stop and Shop grocery cards to the veterans association of
Westchester County to mark Veterans Day 2022.
Chapter President Harry Fotiadis presented the cards to retired United
States Army Colonel Richard Gulley, of the American Legion of New Rochelle,
Post 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Rev. Fr. Demetrios Balidis moderated the
presentation.
In addition, Ahepans presented a book to former 27-year Chapter President Joseph C. Keane. The book is about the service dog,
" Keane, " which the chapter sponsored in his honor for the Service Dogs for Warriors program. Finally, the chapter demonstrated its
tradition of honoring veterans of its community, both living and deceased, with a beautiful display upon the Solea of the Church.
Syracuse Ahepans Honor Their Veterans
Syracuse Ahepans held their annual " Honor the
Veterans " event at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church
on November 12, 2022. They presented Brother Peter
J. Peters with the AHEPA Medal for Military Service
and certificate in appreciation of his service in the U.S.
Army. In remembering veterans, Dr. James Telonis,
who serves as AHEPA 37 director of Hellenism,
remarked " Oxi Day should be celebrated all over the
world and not just by the Greeks. " The brothers also
presented Brothers Filippos Georgakopoulos and
Stavros Tamoutselis with a certificate of appreciation for their loyal support and work in the chapter.
