Hospice Volunteer Programs must find ways not only to meet the 5% requirement
set by Medicare, but to
move beyond the 5%. Growing programs look for ways to expand and enhance the service provided by
volunteers. Volunteer services that are outside the Medicare cost savings categories such as fundraising,
board support, marketing, education and training are all important to hospice programs and add value.
Volunteer leaders must look for innovative ways to engage volunteers and to contribute to their hospice's
sustainability and future growth.
