Member News and Notes David McGrew Honored as a Visionary Leader by AAHPM David M. McGrew, MD, chief of medical services for HPH Hospice (Hudson, FL) was recognized as one of the 30 most influential leaders in hospice and palliative medicine by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. McGrew joined 15 other men and 14 women in earning this distinction, and was credited as having been a driving force since joining HPH Hospice in 1985, just one year after the organization began serving patients and families in Florida's Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties. Carole Fisher, president/CEO of Nathan Adelson Hospice (Las Vegas, NV) has received the national 2013 Kimberley Evans Compassion Award. Hospice Buffalo (Cheektowaga, NY) is the recipient of William M. Bender's estate, totaling more than $2 million. Bender, who died last May at the age of 92, was a Buffalo pharmacist and owner of a local pharmacy. His generous gift was provided in memory of his wife Phyllis, a testament to the compassionate care she received from hospice. Bender's gift will go toward Hospice Buffalo's Love the Dove capital campaign. In commemoration of its 25year anniversary, AAHPM asked its members to nominate individuals who they felt were worldwide leaders or visionaries in the field, and were then asked to cast their votes. Carole Fisher Receives Kimberley Evans Compassion Award Hospice Buffalo Receives $2 Million Gift Rob Stoltz Joins Suncoast Solutions as VP of Business Development Suncoast Solutions recently appointed Robert Stoltz as vice president of business development. Stoltz has nearly 20 years of expertise in care-at-home IT solutions, including the sale of technology solutions such as EMR, financial applications, interoperability solutions and decision support tools for the home health, hospice and private duty markets. This award recognizes individuals who have shown exceptional generosity of time, heart, spirit and resources in their support of families and children in need. It was created in 2012 in honor of Maximum Hope vice president. Kimberley Evans, who works daily with hospitals, hospices and social workers nationwide to identify families struggling to make ends meet as they care for a child with a life-limiting illness. Fisher with actor/comedian Brad Garret, who presented her with the award at his annual fundraiser to benefit charitable groups. 30 NHPCO NewsLine
