your favorite pastime and the importance
of SBA/USDA lending for community
banks this year?
Golf is great for building relationships-and
we all know that relationships are key for
community banks and the small businesses
they serve. Owners must access capital to
realize their dreams, and when bankers participate
in government-guaranteed lending,
it's a win-win for everyone. Businesses grow,
banks generate non-interest-fee income and
the community benefits as well. But today,
trending changes might threaten community
banking's role as a lifeline for Main Street.
In 2017, $6 billion in small-business loans
were made by online lenders-including
non-bank entities. The various loan programs
of the SBA and USDA can help local banks
cultivate stronger relationships. Whether a
bank off ers one loan or 50, this is the time to
set that course.

Is it worth the cost and eff ort for banks
just making a few loans a year?
Absolutely. There's no net cost to banks that
work with us. Plus, sales of SBA 7(a) loan
guarantees are very lucrative for lenders.
