irst appearances can fool the unsuspecting, especially at
the seemingly benign par-3 7th at Victory Links. A
curtain of bunkers draped behind the green
looks like fi ve hazards, but it's only two-just one
of the visual tricks on this hole.
" It is deceptive-especially if the fl ag is on
the back half of the green, " head pro Scott Roth
says. " It's deceptively deep. If you're not paying
attention or lasering it, you can be off as much as
two clubs. "
The crowned green, which slopes back-to-front, is 39feet
deep. The large putting surface is protected by a bunker front,
right. But it is slightly uphill, features a hurting prevailing wind and has no bailout
left or right.
" You have to get the correct yardage or you're cooked, " says Roth. -Joseph Oberle
