In 1926, club members enticed renowned golf architect
A.W. Tillinghast to lay out a new 18-hole course for the
cost of carfare. Tillinghast, whose daughter was married
to a Mayo Clinic doctor, visited often and developed a
life-long friendship with the members. The carfare fee
became a humorous footnote to club lore.
