The Course (And the Golf) Was With Us
With new courses, new friendships and competitive play, the
24th Senior Tour was a success.

he 24th season of the MGA Senior Tour concluded
with nearly 4,500 rounds played by our 675 members.
Many positive additions to the Senior Tour schedule
took place, including a new gross section which plays from a
longer yardage (up to 6,500 yards). Unlike other divisions, this
only awards prizes for gross scores. Additional 18-hole and
36-hole individual events were added to the schedule, and the
women's events saw their highest participation since the section's
inception in 2015.
Overall, the Senior Tour succeeded by creating numerous
opportunities for golfers to explore new courses and participate
in fun competitions. These successes add to the Senior
Tour legacy and fulfill its mission to create lasting memories
and form new friendships.
To conclude the regular season, North Oaks Golf Club held
this year's Senior Tour Finals for the second time. The 86 golfers
who qualified for the event were greeted with a challenging
golf course in its brilliant fall colors. Nine players would ultimately
rise above the competition to be awarded as champions
in their respective divisions (see inset photo).
Perhaps the season's highpoint came during the third annual
MGA-WSGA Senior Tour Cup Matches, Oct. 7-8 at The Classic
at Madden's Resort on Gull Lake in Brainerd (see photo). After
two consecutive losses to Wisconsin, the 24 MGA players who
qualified were eager to compete on home soil. Reminiscent of
the fall weather from the 2016 Ryder Cup, scoring conditions
were optimal and saw the MGA and WSGA tied with 6 points
each after the first round. Throughout the second day, the MGA
team remained steadfast and would rally to win 13 of the 24
single matches to claim the cup for the first time, earning 20
points to the WSGA's 16. In the end, our players were resilient
and played their hearts out. It's safe to say the course was with
us.
Wisconsin is excited to host the 4th annual MGA-WSGA
Senior Tour Cup Matches, Oct. 5-6, 2020, at The Meadow
Valleys course at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wis.-just one week
after the 2020 Ryder Cup concludes at nearby Whistling Straits.
Looking ahead, the 2020 schedule will include six all-section
events with varying individual and team formats. These events
are open to all members of the Senior Tour, and the venues for
these events include Midland Hills, Cragun's Legacy Courses,
Indian Hills, Superior National, Dacotah Ridge, and the St.
Cloud Country Club. Each section will also offer eight individual
events on both familiar and new courses for our members.
Finally, I am pleased to announce that the 2020 MGA Senior
Tour finals will be held Sept. 21 at the White Bear Yacht Club.
