2013 MPGA Senior Match Play
Championship
In the inaugural edition of
the MPGA Senior Match Play,
Bruce Hegland of Cannon Golf
Club held off a surging Steve
Whittaker, July 28 at Pebble
Creek Golf Club in Becker.
Hegland, who had just won the
State Senior Public Links (stroke
play) the week before, was
3-up on the back nine before
Whittaker, a local favorite, birdied
the 17th hole to cut the lead to
one. Both had birdie chances at
the fi nal hole, but Whittaker's
6-foot birdie just missed the
left edge, giving Hegland a
1-up victory. The MPGA would
discontinue the senior match
play championship in 2017, after
four years.
