eautiful hole No. 17 along the shores of Sabin Lake
has been the locale of numerous photos, engagement
proposals and even wedding ceremonies. It's
also the place where a round can crash on the rocks.
From the back tees (underneath the watchful eye of a bald
eagle nesting there), the intimidating shot requires 190 yards
of carry over the cove. The relatively fl at green is 31 paces deep
and more receptive to the right, where mounding can funnel
some shots to the center.
" The green is bigger than it appears, " says John Kendall, the
director of golf. " Hole locations left or front are the most dangerous.
With a lower iron it's hard to get the ball to stop in the
front of the green because it falls abruptly back to the lake. I'm
just trying to get the ball on the putting surface. "
