Bill Travis
William Dean Travis,
63, of Chaska, passed
away July 26. A graduate
of Cornell College
and the University of
Iowa, Travis retired
as Managing Partner
of McGladrey in 2006
after 31 years in the audit and accounting
practice. At the time of his death, he
served on the board of directors of Hazeltine
National, of which he was a longtime
member, and of the MGA, where he also
served on the Strategic Planning committee.
Travis was chair of the 2002 PGA
Championship, and stated afterward,
" The entire experience was a terrifi c one
personally-I met great people and saw
aspects of the game that few people experience. "

Mike Zinni
Mike Zinni, 65, of Mankato, passed away
July 29. Zinni, the longtime head PGA
professional at the Mankato Golf Club,
grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas, where his
appreciation for the game was formed at
his local country club. He earned a golf
scholarship to the University of Houston
before transferring to Midwestern State
University and earned Division II AllAmerican
honors his fi nal season. Zinni
became a member of the PGA in 1976
and served on the Board of Directors for
the Minnesota Section for two decades,
including as its president, 1995-1996. He
won the PGA's Bill Strausbaugh Award in
2000 and the Minnesota Section's Strausbaugh
Award in 2007 and was named
PGA Merchandiser of the Year in 1990.
Zinni became head coach of the Minnesota
State University, Mankato golf team
in 2003 before stepping down in 2009.
