Drive, Chip and Putt
Sept. 12
A late summer day at Hazeltine National
Golf Club in Chaska brought
optimism and opportunity. And with
it came a field of 81 players looking to
advance to the finals of the 2016 Drive,
Chip and Putt competition and fulfill
a dream of playing at one of America's
most storied golf courses.
Since its inception in 2014, the Drive,
Chip and Putt competition has attracted
tens of thousands of players of all
ages and abilities from all parts of the
country. Two local juniors were part of
a group of eight talented youth golfers
who drove, chipped and putted to
qualify for a trip to Augusta National
Golf Club (home of The Masters Tournament)
for the 2016 Drive, Chip and
Putt Championship on April 3.
Inver Grove Heights' Sam Udovich
earned the qualifying spot for the
boys' 7-9 division, and Blaine's Kathryn
VanArragon advanced in the girls' 1011
division.
The remaining qualifiers were Kaitlyn
Hanna, girls' 12-13, and Megan
Whittaker, girls' 14-15, both of Nebraska;
J.P. Hepler, boys' 10-11, Tate
Herrenbruck, boys' 12-13, and Caleb
Kimmel, boys' 14-15, all from Kansas;
and Avery Zwieg, girls' 7-9, of Texas.

The Minnesota Section

Minnesota Golf Course
Superintendents Association, MGCSA

women and girls in the state of Minnesota.

Trans-Mississippi Golf Association
Founded in 1900, the Trans-Mississippi
Golf Association is one of the oldest and
most prestigious golf organizations in the

The CMAA, Upper Midwest Chapter
The CMAA is the professional association
for managers of private membership clubs.
It promotes friendly relations among people
connected with the management of
clubs and other associations of similar

Minnesota Public Golf
Association, MPGA
The purpose of the MPGA is to both promote
interest in the sport and to conserve the

The Fairway Foundation
The Fairway Foundation uses the game
of golf to teach lifetime values and skills
to youth who would not otherwise have

Association, MPGMA
The MPGMA promotes and enhances
the public golf experience through the

The First Tee
The First Tee was established to impact
the lives of young people around the world
by creating affordable and accessible
golf facilities to primarily serve those not
previously exposed to the game and its

Golf Alliance, EMGA
The EMGA is a rapidly growing statewide
organization that promotes the Minnesota
golf experience to those outside of the

Association, MWPGA
MWPGA serves the needs and interests

The Ladies Professional Golf
Association, LPGA
The Ladies Professional Golf Association
encompasses both the LPGA Tour and
the LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals.

Minnesota Minority Junior Golf
Association, MMJGA
The MMJGA sponsors a Caddie Program,
which gives young people a chance to
discover golf and earn income at the same
time. Teens in the program learn how to
play golf and are afforded an opportunity to
earn income, respect, confidence and free
rounds of golf by working as caddies. Go to
