while our respective
partners played correctly.
We wondered if
my opponent, who hit my
ball fi rst, should be out of
the hole. Ultimately, we
decided that the players
who hit the wrong balls
were DQ'ed from the hole
and other two played out.

Spike Marks on the Green
While the current Rule (16-1c) restricts fi xing
imperfections on the green to ball-marks or hole
plugs, the proposed new Rule allows a player to
repair almost any damage (including spike marks
and animal damage, but not natural imperfections).
The change is a good one and had been
seemingly coming for some time, as Rules in this
area have become more lenient and PGA players
have appeared to be doing plenty of green repair
in recent years. It protects the tournament playing
fi eld, in so much that a spike mark made by
a player no longer has to potentially affect only
those coming after that group. It can be fi xed by
whoever notices it-no questions asked. Putting
surfaces, we hope, can only improve.
There are a number of proposed Rules changes
for the 2019 season (see Minnesota Golfer, Spring
2017). Therefore, we will be looking at some we feel
will make the cut.
The new Rule would
allow more damage
repair on the green.
